I had removed one of my glass top sections on my 120 gallon tank and was walking it to the bathroom to clean in the tub. As I entered the bathroom, one of the corners tapped the door frame and instantly....IT SHATTERED. Not a little shatter, but a violent shatter...actually throwing glass everywhere in the bathroom.
Does anyone know of a company that builds acrylic tops for aquariums. The only one I know of is Glass Cages but their sizes don't match up....

Sorry about this Mike! I do not know anyone online. For glass, most glass shops could cut your top. For acrylic, there are many with such specialties in larger cities that should also be able to cut this for you. I personally used Paragon Plastics in El Monte California www.paragonplastics.us/I also used them to cut polycarbonate tops which let in more light energy, especially in the blue range (I used these for my reef aquariums that had tops) Carl

Yikes! Is there a local place to get a glass top, I would think there would be a glass shop that will cut you a top? Shipping glass is often difficult as packages are often dropped, sometimes if only falling off conveyor belts. Even proving good bubble wrapping will often not help for drop due to the physics of momentum. A myth buster episode showed this. A meeting many years back when I was an active pilot attending a NTSB educational meeting showed similar as to how while the outside package (plane in this case) could do well, the inside momentum could be devastating. I have argued this many times with dishonest UPS & FedEx claims employees Carl

Yes again Devon LOL. @ Carl- Yes I have have a hard time with glass lids. I had some I bought from Thatpetplace.com whom I have a good relationship and visit their retail store often, that broke while shipping. They bubble wrapped the heck out of the replacement and all was well. This makes me sad that I don't have a LFS near me anymore. You are almost forced to either buy online or get creative.
I ended up using TAP Plastics cut to order for the acrylic tops. Ended up being around 50 bucks with shipping. I'll take some pics when they arrive....

LFS owner?! While your in thatfishplace again, you should ask them about the APP Custom Food. They used to carry it when it was branded Paradigm. Let them know it's even better now...you could be the middle man, make some cash or store credit Just throwing out all these new business venues for ya! haha

I will certainly talk with ThatFishPlace about AAP's custom food! I'll even take my stock out with me. As far as a career change.....as soon as I'm presented with "the door" I'm running through it. Law Enforcement while necessary is more accurately put "law of diminishing returns". Those working it are getting slow brewed variations of PTSD from dealing with crap night after night. I've even noticed a difference in my temperament...from what it used to be and what it is now....

I made precise measurements of where all my hoses and tubes were and went to my local glass shop. Had them custom cut me two sheets of Lexan.

I couldn't manage doing what you do day after day. Cruel world and it would be very hard to not look at everyone as a possible threat.

Finally have the lights up and running. The new Acrylic top is on the right. The pieces were cut nicely but could have used a sliver more to each side to fit in the bracing. I actually have 2 sheets of acrylic stacked on top of one another because I felt there was a bit too much give. I'll order a thicker acrylic for the left hand side and see if they can give me a wee more length on the sides. I love these lighting holders for my Tiles. It gives you the ability to move lighting around to were you want it concentrated. Mike

Looking Good!! Sorry though for the job stress. I believe we are living in an increasingly evil world. My best friend called just last night asking for prayers for his son who has been in the Navy for some time. Of late he has been bully severely by his senior enlisted person after he found out how my friends son voted (was planning 20 years total, but no trying to get out). We have been stalked in social media by a very evil person who is make very personal accusations against me. Carl
