Hello Everyone,
I'm new to this forum. I have been keeping Bettas for about 10 years and I swear with each new Betta I learn about a new disease...sob
Diego has severe fin rot where almost his entire tail has rotted away. His tank paramiters:
5 gallon tank
Aquaclear filter
Planted tank w/java fern, moss ball and mini anubias and regular anubias.
Drift wood
I did have Adventurine rock in it, but I just took it out because it has jagged edges 😳
little ceramic cave/hut
aquarium decoration
two betta suction cup leaves
10watt tank heater
amonia: 0
nitrate: 0
PH: 7.6
temp: 75-80 (I need to get a more stable heater)
I've tried salt treatment in a 2.5gallon hospital tank and when that didn't work I bought Maracyn 2 and treated him in his main tank, that seemed to just stress him out and the rot almost seemed to escalate. I tried one more salt treatment in his hospital tank and that still didn't work, these treatments occured over the course of almost 2 months. Today, now all that he is doing is resting at the bottom, he didn't come up for food.
So I'm giving up on the hospital tank treatments. In his main tank I did a 100% water change (his gravel was quite dirty, I need a syphon vacuum) and changed the carbon and biomax cartridges in the filter. Also added a double dose of stress coat. I also dared to apply hydrogen peroxide to the rotted area today. That seemed to go well. Diego is now in his tank and I'm hoping for the best. Oh and he must be at least 3 years old now.
Any helpful thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'll post pics when I get home.
One more question, is pillow moss the moss that grows in the woods? I live in Maine and we have TONS of it in the woods around our house. Is this the same pillow moss I've seen discussed here that you can put in aquariums?
Thanks so much!
