Does anyone know if the table of basic lighting suggestions at the end of the AAP lighting article for 20 gallon tanks is referencing a 20H or a 20L? I have a 29G and a 20H would have roughly the same depth.
I'm trying to take a KISS approach to upgrading my secondhand 30" striplight hood with just a new bulb to meet the needs of low light plants and enhance the color and quality of life of my blue and red betta. (My last planted tank turned into a high density/intensity labor of hand-wired love but I'm trying to control myself this time. 😊) That said I'm not opposed to other suggestions if commenters feel this will be inadequate.
Additionally I am concerned the plexiglass cover on the strip light will filter light excessively. Should I try to leave it off? Does it matter in this application? I worry it will pose an electrical risk if I do.
Thanks for your help everyone.
Sincerely,
Jenny and "the Fishy"
PS - Carl I love your incorporation of black-body radiation into the lighting article.

I have no cover on my 75 planted tank. After I removed the glass my plants do much better. Richard
