Did a water change the other day... Thought my new bubbler (installed no more than one month ago) had lost its punch rather fast, so I went to replace the stone with an even larger one. When I turned over the bubbler, I noticed a lot of little snails; also a few snails and a clear, jellylike substance covering the stone. Would that happen to be snail eggs??

Yes, the jelly substance is snail eggs. They can multiply very fast. If these are pest snails that you want to get rid of, you can get a couple assassin snails. They can keep the population under control.

Snails will be crazy when a tank is balancing out, but once there's not an excess of nutrients, they manage themselves to a point you don't really notice them.

A trick if the numbers get too high is a slice of cucumber on the bottom. Snails will often collect on the slice (in particular the morning from my experience), then you throw the slice away with snails too.
This does not get rid of snails, but certainly can control snails.
Many Loaches and Botias will eat snails too

I don't know what kind of tank/residents you have, but I've also read that the Striped and the Spotted Raphaels are suppose to love to snack on them. From everything I've read so far, the Spotted is only supposed to reach a maximum of 5" (a couple say 6"), While the Striped will reach 8".
