I decided I want to make my 10 gallon a subtropical, so I'm going to move the 2 platies there this weekend and want to put my 4 julii cories down in the 30, but the more I read about Flying Foxes, the more concerned I am about keeping the cories (or anything else) down there with the fox. The flying fox is still pretty small, maybe about 2 inches, so he's fine with everything now, but once he gets older, I'm afraid he's just going to get meaner!
I kind of want to return him to the lfs. He hasn't done anything bad...yet...
Has anyone kept the fox before and/or have an opinion?

I more have kept the SAE (Siamese Algae Eater) which are of the same family (not Genus), and look and have similar temperaments to my understanding (this is my understanding as I have only kept the Flying Fox a few times). With SAE I have notinced slight aggression as they got older, but if kept in groups they seemed to ignore other species and chase each other instead (in terratorial aggression).
I have generally done well with these fish in tanks with what I termed in my old store as "Class B" aggressive fish (as oppossed to Class A or C, the higher the letter, the more agressive). This would include Barbs, Danios, Angels, Gouramis, and large Tetras such as Red Minors.

Thanks Carl. I think I will take him back. From everything I have read, the SAE's are less aggressive at an older age than the Foxes. More aggressive mostly toward other SAE's where the Fox seems to be known for being more aggressive toward anything that gets in it's territory. In a 30 gallon tank, there's only so much territory for everyone, so that makes me nervous. If I had bigger and more aggressive fish such as the ones you named, I'd probably keep him. But I've got 6 Celebes rainbows, a female betta, and 2 head and tail light tetras.Oh and a 3 to 3 1/2 inch Scissortail rasbora who is my biggest fish, but also the biggest sissy, lol. I also have one chubby Cherry Barb who likes to chase the fox around every now and then though, which is funny. Plus, I'd like to put my happy little julli's down there. There are so many opinions everywhere about them that it's so hard to make a decision. It probably boils down to the personality of the fish. But it makes me nervous nonetheless. My algae problem is starting back up again, so at least and SAE will help out more with that. Thanks again for the info Carl.
