I'm hoping someone can give me a quick answer on this. I am treating for anchor worms currently and am wondering if Tetra Parasite Guard and AAP ParaGuard are essentially the same. I have Tetra Parasite Guard, but have seen ParaGuard advertised a lot. If they're drastically different I suppose I'll go out and buy a new one, if not then I'll continue using the same. Thanks!

There's Tetra Parasite Guard, and AAP ParaGuard. I'm wondering if these two products are the exact same.
Thanks for the link, I have ordered some of those medicines and am waiting. It recommends AAP Paraguard... so I'm wondering if it is the same as the Tetra Parasite Guard, which I already own.

Tetra Parasite Guard contains: Praziquantel, Metronidazole, Acriflavin, Diflubenzuron AAP ParaGuard employs a proprietary, synergistic blend of aldehydes, malachite green and fish protective polymers As per the article we provided for you to read dealing with Anchor Worms notes that AAP Clout is the strongest choice for Anchor worms, but it cannot be mixed with other medications/treatments Recommended Product Resources that SUPPORTs this free information: www.americanaquariumproducts.com/TetraJungleHikari.html#parasiteclearwww.americanaquariumproducts.com/Seachem.html#paraguardwww.americanaquariumproducts.com/FritzMardelKordon.html#cloutCarl

If you're getting these products from a different online store... I'd have to ask, why not get them from the person who giving you free professional help. Not to throw a stick in the mud, but if time is spent helping people and they just try to go find the recommended products at another online store, this service can no longer be free. Throwing this out there, because we have larger problem with people getting free help, then ordering from places like ebay or Amazon.

Carl - Okay, thanks, I saw the list but didn't realize it was saying Clout was the best. Is it not even worth me finishing using my Parasite Guard from Tetra, or should I use it up and see? If there's literally no point to me using Parasite Guard I can order Clout from your store, so long as you think waiting a bit to receive it won't have any lasting harm on my fish.
DevonJohnsgard - I'm not really sure what you're talking about to be honest. I got my medication from my local fish store a few days ago, they gave it to me for free. As for not ordering from your site... I honestly had NO idea that ordering through that website was even a thing that was possible. I ordered two medications with one day free shipping from Amazon because it is an emergency for one of my fish, he is dying from both septicemia AND anchor worms at the same time. I am a little tight on money so I cannot afford to pay for fast shipping. I think you could have asked me about this in a much more polite and less invasive way, and without making so many assumptions. I'm not trying to slight you guys and if it was made more clear on the website that you were hoping people would order it from YOU (I didn't even realize your website sold the medications) I would have done it. I will go ahead and order my next medication from you, if it is not an immediate emergency. I assumed this was like any other forum, where members help other members with issues. I have NEVER been to a forum where I am pressured to spend money for the help I've received, so I wasn't aware this is the expectation. Sorry if you feel you have wasted your time answering my questions since it did not generate income for you.

Clout is the strongest, but that does not always mean the strongest is needed. Nor can this be combined like you can ParaGuard Since you have two ongoing issues, you likely would be best going with a combination treatment such as ParaGuard and Triple Sulfa, rather than the stronger treatment; Clout This would also include the physical removal of the parasites followed by the swabs and then baths using AAP Methylene Blue as noted in the referenced article I have to respectfully disagree as to your assessment of what Devon stated We do help members, but as with any forum, somebody has to pay the bills. Since this forum pays a professional staff and provides free information websites that are updated constantly with new ongoing research and that are like no other anywhere on the internet. We are quite unique. We also point this out on the articles such as the one helping with Anchor worms to support this free information or in gif pictures: Here is a screenshot from the Aquarium Answers article dealing with Anchor Worms, which I think is clear, but not invasive (we are simply trying to pay our bills too) I myself now work for much less than minimum wage as an aquarium professional with 10s of 1000s of hours experience because most persons now take my help and including these article and shop elsewhere. As for Amazon, often there is also a reason they are less too Here is an example from this from another website: aquariumopinions.com/2013/08/27/purchasing-aquarium-pond-equipment-via-amazon/Sorry if we made you feel the way you did, but I have to admit that Amazon and other discounters have been the scourge of the aquarium hobby as awesome companies that once provide some of the best products are no longer around because of purchases there in (example Aquatronics, one of the best fish pharmaceutical companies ever). Ditto the junk Amazon sells calling UV Sterilizers when in fact these products ARE NOT really and then hobbyists purchase of this junk equipment who then say does "it does not work" and it gets spread around that UVs do not work. Next thing you know, misinformed aquarium forums are stating ALL UV Sterilizers do not help with disease prevention or Redox when in fact this is false Carl

I did assume the information being given to you was read and things like the sponsor banner was seen. I did apply what happens a lot around here to you and felt the need to say something. The plain and simple of it, if others don't support the forum, the service your getting now will be gone and you will just have to go to forums where you simply get hobbyist type answers. Maybe they'll work... Maybe not. It's what much of the hobby has fallen victim too and a lot of professionals have had to simply shut their doors.

I would also caution you as per Anchor Worm treatment to follow what is stated in the well researched and professional experience based Aquarium Answers article dealing with anchor worms, not what many social media web sites are stating where those answering clearly have no back ground in aquarium treatments and how they work. A good example is I have actually seen Microbe-Lift Herbtana & Artemiss recommended for Anchor worms, which is ludicrous as these are herbal treatments that do not even clearly state their ingredients and also negatively affect your aquariums Redox Balance, which is the last thing you want to do when treating fish that not only have anchor worms, but more importantly, septicemia Reference (PLEASE READ): www.americanaquariumproducts.com/AquariumMedication4.htmlCarl

Thank you both for your help, this has been a very frustrating and upsetting situation and I just wanted to get it under control sooner than later.
Right now, I removed all of the anchor worms from my betta (save one that is beneath his fin) and he is in a hospital tank being treated with Furan-2. I feel more concerned, for him, about the septicemia and fin rot and am hoping that the anchor worms will not be in the hospital tank. If so, I'll deal with it later.
I will order Clout to remove the anchor worms, and I can get it through your site. I've been using Parasite Guard but apparently that really does not work for anchor worms?

I'm glad you accepted my apologize Parasite Guard would work for mild cases because it contains Praziquantel, but it would have to be when the parasite is on the outside of the fish or the free swimming stage. Since these guys bury themselves in the fish, Clout would be a better choose because it does better penetrating the fish. Clout is for more serve parasites, but is also more harsh for the fish and the nitrogen cycle. So, you have to figure where you are at in treatment and if it's worth it. If you haven't already. Make sure your up on your water quality, including KH, as medication treatments are far less effective in poor water.

Thank you both for your help, this has been a very frustrating and upsetting situation and I just wanted to get it under control sooner than later. You're welcome! Applying Methylene Blue directly as a swab can help considerably to prevent infection. Following this with a medicated fish bath containing MB, salt, & Furan 2 can help further While Parasite Clear is not as strong as Clout as long as you have removed the Anchor Worms, it can kill the swimming stage. This is not to say having Clout on hand is a bad idea. My personal preference would be in this order: *removal, *swab, *bath, *in tank treatment with ParaGuard and Triple Sulfa (maybe even Metronidazole), *then make sure your water parameters are the best they can be. This includes mineral ions, 0 ammonia/nitrites Further reading/reference for keeping a healthy aquarium: www.americanaquariumproducts.com/Aquarium_Disease.htmlwww.fishbeginner.info/home/what-makes-a-healthy-aquarium-or-unhealthy/Carl

Okay, one last question...
On a betta forum, someone suggested I use clove oil to put my betta to sleep, and then remove the anchor worm under his fin. Is this a good idea, or should I really just let it naturally fall off?

Okay, one last question... On a betta forum, someone suggested I use clove oil to put my betta to sleep, and then remove the anchor worm under his fin. Is this a good idea, or should I really just let it naturally fall off? While this may calm the Betta, this can be over dosed too and then be fatal. I am not saying this is a bad idea either, just "use with caution" Here is a resource with directions for clove oil use: www.research.psu.edu/arp/anesthesia/fish-anesthesiaThe problem with Anchor worms is they are both an external and internal parasite, and most external treatments do not absorb deep enough into the fish to be effective when the parasite is embedded on the fish. This is why removal, as tough as it may be, followed by the swab and bath are the best courses of actions, then treat in the tank with treatment as suggested earlier since your fish have secondary infections. If removal is not something you feel comfortable with or as a follow up in a few weeks, then Clout would be a good choice since it is the strongest treatment Carl
