Im buying salt for my FW aquarium , and i have read from some people that even when following the directions, when they use the salt, it makes their tank water go white...im curious if there are any tips to help make sure that doesnt happen to my tank...or does this happen randomly, or only if done wrong? Thanks

I have never seen tank water go white from salt except for the first few seconds after the salt is put in. what i recommend is to mix up water and salt in a juice jug or something like that and stir it till it is disolved then slowly pour it into the tank. that should stop any instant whitening of water from undesolved salt...

oh ok, im not suprised to hear it hasnt been heard of, all i know is i read it on a review of a salt product...i bet from hearing that from you, the guy prolly put the dose of salt for his whole tank INTO his tank, not with a water change. Thanks

I've never had salt make a tank white. As it disolves, it can make a little of the water look different but not the whole tank. It would be kind of neat though if it did. lol

I have never seen a tank go white from adding salt and I have added copious amounts of salt to many tanks (such as Brine Shrimp tanks). Pure salt is sodium chloride and this is simply not possible once dissolved. This person may have added or mixed something else such as a calcium product. Also most table salts have anti caking agents which could cause "white water" See this article for more about salt: Aquarium Answers; Salt in freshwater aquariumsCarl

I haven't had to much experience with the salt bit either, except for the last couple of months, but I have never seen it go white either, I can see the grains falling to the bottom of the tank, but that was it... sure it was salt? ?
