I've always wanted a PAR meter to test my lighting intensity both in and out of the aquarium. Can anyone recommend a decent handheld unit? They vary in prices from what I've seen thus far...

I've always wanted one as well, but just cannot justify spending that much money for a general number reading. Considering what I know about PAR...
There are Li-Cor meter, which actually can read the entire 400-700nm range. PAR meters lack on reading the more important nm closer to the 400 and closer to the 700nm. Much more spendy.

I've read Carl's article on PAR several times actually...but I'm a chronic "TINKERER". While I wouldn't make big decisions based solely on a meter reading, small things like knowing where my T5's are in their service life would be helpful. BUT...but I can't justify the cost of a Vecton and filter for the cost of an Apogee meter
