I have just finished the treatment with medicated wonder shells and am ready to trasnfer my cories to the main tank. Tomorrow I am going to Petco for their limited-store two-day fish sale, and was planing on getting some more ghost shrimp, as well as some other things--snails included. Since I will be placing them into the quarantine tank (which had the medicated wonder shell treatment), how large of a water change do I need to do for the water to be safe for the shrimp?

Makes me a little nervous. I would wait until maybe 2 water changes. I'm just thinking about would equal a 100% water change. So if you do 50% at a time, do 2. If you do 10% at a time. Do ten...

I know, their timing sucks. I wish the sale was next week.
I should probably be safe putting the shrimp and snails (after acclimation) directly into the the 55G (didn't have aproblem with the Bamboo shrimp this way--?lucky?). They had a betta a couple days ago (when I went to have my lights checked at the saltwater lfs) that I was thinking about getting, if it's still there (unusual coloring/markings, so it may be gone). That (and if they have my Ram) should be safe to go into the quarantine with the residual medicated wonder shell, right? And add another one for a little while? I can start the "complete" water change process over time after this, correct?

The fish would be fine to go into the QT and you could add another medicated shell if the other one is almost gone. The removal of the meds in the QT can be done after.

Yeah, I wouldn't put snails or shrimp in the QT tank at all. Put them in the display tank.
The QT tank doesn't just need to have a water change (or 3), you also need to run Purigen or a Poly-Filter to absolutely make sure you've removed all the meds. The Wonder Shell doesn't just contain copper but also other things that could harm shrimp.

Hey, Parker. I just ran a copper test on all my tanks today. The 55G reads 0 and the 10G and tap water read at just over 0 (you can barely detect any color when comparing to the chart. I did run some Purigen in the 10G quarantine tank for about a week, and just removed it yesterday.

If you ran Purigen and the water tests 0, I think you'll be ok. Shrimp are just so fragile...

I'm just getting ready to add another MWS to my quarantine tank, and was wondering how large of a water change should I do; and should I run the filter with carbon and Purigen for a while 1st as is done when performing regular in-tank treatments?
Thanks, Angelminx

Thanks, Angelminx I would do about a 25% water change. Yes, you would run carbon and purigen for maybe an hour or two.

Thanks, Devon. I'll do that when I get back from Petco tomorrow. I have to go back so soon because when I looked at the bag today, I realized I picked up the ADULT Nutro Natural Choice cat food instead of the Senior . The Nat'l Choice was in 2 different locations, and I was going to get the senior Salmon Formula this time; when I saw Salmon next to the senior Chicken I just assumed it too was the Senior diet. I should have looked closer at the package. Seems like whenever I don't, THAT'S when things aren't in the right place .
