Hello! I found the everythingaquatic via web search trying to help my little betta. He's a Petco purchase. I got him the day he arrived looking pretty healthy. He's been with me for approx 3-5 months without problem.
Note: I don't run the filters all the time. I do 30-50% water changes a couple times a month and turn the filters on for several hours each day. It has kept the tanks clear and clean (I do suction out the unbeaten food (pellets, frozen blood worms and frozen Daphnia) and fish poo. I'm not an exacting nor compulsive about all of this but I do work hard at it. I treat all the water with Seachem conditioner, some PH down (mine runs 7.6 from the tap) and API salt routinely. I have the complete API test kit which I use. I have 10-12 Betta fish which is a lot, I no long even look at the new ones for sale! Lol
Though all of this illness he's remained happy and eating.
The first problem he had was the tail disappeared within a few days. I assumed tail/fin rot and treated it with daily water changes and salt treatments in a heated container with a towel warped around.
The fin stopped disappearing and after 2 weeks (+/- a day or two) and I put him back into a filtered tank.
He seemed fine with the exception of what I thought was a wound on his side where he had damaged his beautiful little self
i got busy treating another poss. Fin rot case, who recovered and is doing great.
When I took a serious hard long look at this Betta 3 days ago I realized it wasn't a wound at all, that he had some type of disease, maybe fungus and bacteria and was in need of medical attention now! Additionally I don't feel his tail is continuing to re grow but think it's again disappearing.
He is on the 3rd day of Nox-ich, salt and Bettavive treatments. The water prior to this treatment, when I was doing just the salt and heat was always filled with small white stuff. I now suspect it was junk falling off of the wound. I did 100% daily changes and the stuff was swirling around each time.
I have aver ordered several products which haven't arrived and am hoping someone will recognize what is growing on my guy. He's one of my favorites. Thank you!
