Thanks Carl! I'm happy to be here. It's refreshing to find an encouraging fish site - I've visited many that not only made me feel like an idiot, but a cruel one. Their big advice is "please research" DUH! guess they don't realize that the more we research, often the more confusing the answers. Anyway, so glad to find you folks. I've had various aquariums but now in a living situation where i have to keep it small. lol - my intention anyway when I rescued one crown tail Betta from a well-known pet store. After about a week I couldn't stand seeing him alone in a 1 gallon unfiltered home so I started cycling a 20 gallon. once cycled, he moved in along with 8 zebra Danios. He's a laid back kind of guy & now shares this home (along with the zebras) with 2 white-skirt tetras, 3 Cory cats, 1 Dojo loach, 2 male guppys & many live plants. I later rescued another male Betta from Walmart. I swear to you the fish looked me in they eye & I simply couldn't bare to leave him in that dirty little cup. He lived in the 1 gal. till I bought & cycled a 10 gal. where he moved with 4 Botia Striata. Problem there - the loaches seem to turn gangsta when the lights go out. They shredded my Betta's beautiful fins! So, this Betta (named Chance) now resides alone in a filtered, heated 3 gallon. The loach family seem to have peace with their new tank mates - 2 dwarf Gourami & a flying fox (BBA) - of course many live plants & hiding spots here as well.

Welcome to Everything-Aquatic missdiane! I hope you enjoy it here. Btw, I think it is great that you have rescued poorly cared-for bettas from petstores. I have done the same with goldfish.
