I bought a few cute holiday aquarium decorations from Petsmart. I cleaned them up and put them in tanks early last week. Snowman at work, Christmas tree in my 50, and a reindeer in the 30. Yesterday I went into work and noticed that paint was bubbling all over the snowman! I took it out, came home and checked the tree and reindeer and the paint on them was bubbling too! I'm pretty disappointed with Petsmart's Top Fin brand. I know they're bottom-end stuff, but I've bought their ornaments before and haven't had problems like this. I paid cash for these, so I don't have the receipt anymore, but I'm going to try to take them back anyway. I've also posted negative reviews and a photo on their website so that others will know to stay away! I figured I'd better let you all know about it too in case you're there and see them. I'm glad I noticed before the paint started to flake off in the water! It's a shame. They're really cute and I don't remember seeing holiday decorations for aquariums before. Everyone at work loved the snowman. Now he looks diseased! [a href=" "] [/a]

I know! I was so bummed. I took them back, and of course the stupid things were on clearance for $0.94. I paid like $2.39 for them, so I kind of got hosed. I'm considering sending Petsmart an email. I'm sure it won't do any good, but they're selling defective products and I think they need to be aware of it.

That is too bad. I am always overly cautious about decorations from pet stores I put in my tanks for reasons such as this. Kudos to you babygeige on for taking action and letting others and Petsmart know about this! I hope your fish are OK despite the issues with the decorations. I hope you are able to find some nice, higher quality decoratiions for your fish tanks! Renee

I just sent PetSmart another terse email about another one of their decor items. I bought this for my betta tank: www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=12290470&cp=2767036.2769124Today I noticed that the paint is coming off! I thought this would be better because it had a different kind of finish from the holiday decorations, but I was completely wrong. So yeah, I'm definitely done with aquarium ornaments from PetSmart.

Thanks for the "heads up"
I get offered ornaments from wholesalers, so I will watch out for this or ornaments that look of similar manufacture

The barrel ornament was GloFish brand. Since I sent Petsmart the email, I've realized that other places sell this brand as well, so keep an eye out for them. Petsmart was great about the whole thing. Someone responded to my email with a couple of days and since I didn't have the receipt anymore, they were able to look up the transaction on my Petperks card and make arrangements with the nearby Petsmart store for me to get my money back. She also said that she was going to have the store send the ornament back to her so she could address it with the manufacturer. Who knows whether they really do that or not, but I was at least glad to get the money back. They handled it very well.

I'm Petsmart was so quick at responding and even went the extra mile for you! Some merchants are quite hard to deal with so this is great to hear.

I always look at this type of decorations in the stores, however they're never perfect. They usually have rough edges at the hole entrances and, I suppose, should be polished with sanding paper. But this is the first time I hear about low quality paint. That's why I prefer old china decorations. I recently bought a couple of little houses on e-bay, they are vintage Japanese aquarium decor. And I even put a little Japanese vase/cachepot of hand painted china in another tank and planted a plant inside it. It's possible to find on e-bay very cute old fashioned china stuff. But you gave me an idea! I never thought the aquarium decoration can be seasonal . I'm gonna look for a china snowman now )) check this out
