I have been thinking about adding three peppered Cory cats to a tank that has a mix of African cichlids. I have emeralds in with smaller cichlids 3inch or so and the emeralds are about 2 inch. this has worked well but the larger peacocks I have not ever tried with a cat. What is the opinion out there will this work or is it disaster ? Thanks for the input Mike

I have not kept cichlids but from reading what others on here who have experience with them have posted, you are right to consider aggression with these fish. General things to consider however are adult size of the emarald cichlids (I think they grow a lot larger than 3 inches), the size of the tank, how aggressive the species of cichlid tends to be, and the amount of cover fish have to hide. I hope that helps a bit and best of luck! Renee

It all helps when thinking through things. Most of the corys get around 3 to 4 inch which means they are probably not going to become food for a 4to 6 inch fish well at least I hope! They are fast moving and tend to stay in little packs when keep in 3 or more! I once tried 2 and they seemed to be very unsocial with each other. But the three that I have now move as a little bottom gang through the tank. Fun to watch! Well I think I will wait and see if there are any that have tried this combo. Thank you for the input! Mike

Renee made some good points.
My thought also is whether or not the larger Peacocks will consider the cats as a territorial threat, as it is not really a matter of them becoming food or not.
I have mixed Corys with a variety of African cichlids with varied success.. The size (number of fish) of the Cory group will definitely help, as will landscaping & tank size; but in the end it often comes down to individual fish personalities.

Carl thank you for that. I see what you are saying I think I will try them I had a pleco in there that was seen as a territory threat by one of the fish due to him trying to live in the rock hole with the other fish. The pleco was not smart enough to move to a different rock hole that was not occupied by another fish. The emeralds that I have with med size cichlids a mixed tank of African an South American Has worked out very well so I can see how it is just the make up of the tank. Thanks to all for your feedback and have a perfect work week. Mike

I have kept corys with both africans and south americans....and some of the sa wre 10-12". I think if thee is a spot to transfer them it is worth a try...especially if there are alot of hiding spots. This is just an observation that i have had over the years...
