Puon is very bloated again and have decide to see if I can get the fish to become less bloated by switching from feeding pellets and flakes to only flakes. Puon is normally fed Spirulina 20 in the morning and Omega One Goldfish Pellets evey night which I soak. I have looked through all the places I keep fish food in my hous and am unable to find any flakes foods made for goldfish (minus the Spirulina 20 which I already feed). I decided to feed Puon a mixture of Spirulina 20 flakes and Tropical Flake Frenzy at night to balance the Puon's diet while I try this. I don't want to feed only Spirulina during the week or two I try this and not Tropical Flake Frenzy alone since it may contain too much meaty foods for goldfish. To my question, is it alright to feed goldfish Spirulina 20 Flakes and and mixture of Spirulina 20 Flakes and Tropical Flake Frenzy at night for 1-2 weeks? Also, with this experiment to see if feeding no pellets fior a bit would help the bloating, would I likely have better results with a nutritious goldfish flake food than mixing the Spirulina 20 and Tropical Flake Frenzy at night? If not feeding teh tropical flake frenzy at all is best, I can buy a small amount of goldfish flake food. (FYI , I am not low goldfish food. They are just all pellets and wafers.) Thanks. Renee

I think this a good idea. However I would suggest feeding ONLY a Spirulina based flake food. Spirulina 20 is 100% complete for nutrition and more importantly Spirulina Algae is very easy to digest. In fact in a trial where in one group of older platties (the exact age was not known, but I had had these since birth I had a rough idea and all Platties were showing signs of age); I found the Platties fed the Spirulina 20 (called Green Flake Plus then) out lived the control group fed a mixture of tropical fish diets by about 25% (not Tropical Fish Flake Frenzy though) Carl

I too feed my Goldies the omega pellets, the large ones cause they are so huge. I have tried other ones as well but my fancy fantail has such a finky stomach that anything else I try causes get to flip upside down from gas. I also swap with omega veggie pellets so they get their good dose of veggie food The downside I find to the omega pellets make the water cloudy compared to other pellets if they miss one or two. So I guess for me it's just deciding to deal with cleaning the tank more often so my poor fantail doesn't get stressed out.
Also, at the local fish store here they only carry a small jar of the large omega pellets which I find myself going through pretty quickly with 3 massive goldies. Does anyone know where I can order a jumbo size or anything?

Thanks for the input guys. I'll keep with the Spirulina 20 then for the next week or two where I feed Puon only flakes.
I think the Omega One goldfish food comes in two sizes (one larger) but I don't know if it comes in a really big pondfish type size. However, I know Carl sells some pond goldfish and koi food (which is also pellets). They look like they are very hugh quality.

This is a special feeding situation for one of my goldfish that has bloating problems due to a deformity. I have gotten the problem under control now and take special care when feeding this fish. The fish, Puon, is not 100%, but doing much better now.
