A while ago, I replaced an Aqueon (All-Glass) submersible with a Marineland Stealth, which is now on recall.
The local LFS here sells API (Rena) gear and I noticed they carry the Smart heaters.
Carl had mentioned these to me when I replaced my Aqueon but I went the easy route.
The reason I'm asking is that it appears these heaters actually attach to the filter intake of your canister filter. This would be ideal for me in freeing up more space in my tank.
They've gotten pretty good reviews but I don't know if they'd work with my AquaTop CF-300.
Any takers?

I do not know if you can utilize this feature of the Rena Smart Heater for an AquaTop, although I would think it is possible if it can fit on a Rena Filstar (the design is not all that different). I do worry about over heating connected this way as I have had problems with the past with heater placed in inline modules overheating then failing.
That said, even if you cannot use the heater this way, the Rena Smart Heater is "top notch". My only complaint is that I feel they are over priced for what you get (similar to my opinion of an Eheim filter; a good filter but not necessarily as much better as the price would lead one to believe.)

I will look at them. Given the recall, I plan on pulling my Marineland immediately so I'm pretty limited in my choices for a replacement...

Maybe a Titanium or Digital Aquarium Heater; of which the Titanium is more durable and the Digital is more accurate might be a consideration? Carl

No, I don't require it. I would look at titanium and/or digital if they are available. Unfortunately, I don't have the time to wait for shipping. I just know the place I can get one today deals in API/Rena almost exclusively...

I don't know why I'm in a panic to replace the Marineland just because it was recalled. It's worked fine until now, what are the chances it's going to explode in the next 2-3 days?
The LFS had cheap crap and the Rena Smart filters - the 200W was $49.99!
I think I'm gonna order a Via Aqua 200W Titanium from you - does that sound like a good plan?

I went ahead with the 200W. I figured that even in an extreme situation I would need more than 15 degrees over ambient temp, which would be just over 200W (206.25W exactly).
We usually keep it 68F in here during the winter and I keep my water around 80F, so on average I should only need about 165W.

This wattage should work out fine, as you have already figured.
Again, Thanks too.

I guess I could have gone 300W given the price difference, but then you have to figure in the power draw (cost to operate per kWh) too...

parker002, have you called the 800 number about getting a refund or whatever? I haven't had a chance, given their limited hours. I'm curious to see how this works.
