I was wondering what projects people are working on with regard to aquarium and/or ponds. At the moment I'm switching my filtration over from pure HOB to sponge with HOB backup for ac and surface agitation as needed. I just closed down one of my tanks, but of course am considering putting one up again, a 10g with maybe another betta along with some pygmy corys. My family will go crazy if I do ;D One of my biggest goals is how to stop my corys' eggs from fungusing

Now that is interesting. I wish I could have a SW set up but its a no go currently. Are they (octopi and cuttlefish) as fragile as seahorses and starfish?

they are kinda. their lifespans are very short....my octopus had a lifespan of 1 year. you dont know how old they are when you get them....my guy charlie (there are pics on another post) was pretty old when i got him. i had him for near 3 months before his passing.

Imagine its like alot of wild-caught creatures, unless you can judge by size its a wild guess. Still, sorry he didn't last very long. No one manages to breed them?

not really....not often enough too make it viable anyways. the species i had was A. Acleatus.they are one of the more famous breeds for being at the end of their lives by the time you get them. the big thing with octos is to do your rersearch before you get them. for example....there is a blue ring octo. it is one of the most poisonous animals in the world.. 1 octo can kill 26 full grown men...with no antidote. most are to some point poisonous....but they are very intelligent and quite affectionate. cant wait to find a cuttlefish......lol

I am not doing anything majore besides downgrading at the moment. The last of my guppies are dying off of old age and my tetras won't probably last more than a year more.
However, I am thinking about trying SA (salt water) for the first time this year. I am thinking of clownfish but that is in the future for now for when the last of my other fish (exlcuding my goldfish) die off. I have lots of resarch to do before I start as well.

My daughter's 14G she got for Christmas is fully stocked and cycled (15 ghost shrimp, 2 otos, and a betta). Once I get her background applied tomorrow, it's finished.
Then no more projects for a while!!!

Renee....SW isnt REALLY more work than FW....but keep in mind...you need lots of extra knowledge and the initial cost is through the roof. it is extremely rewarding but doesnt come cheap. if you do decide to try this we will be more than happy to help tho...
and also....glad to hear the small tank is coming along. Aquatics can be a very exciting family hobby. some families play boardgames...and some work with fish....lol

I'm kind of in a holding pattern right now. I haven't bought any fish since late summer. Right now I'm having a little trouble with the plants in my 30 gallon, so I'm trying to get them back into shape. I think having the pleco in there helped them or something because ever since I moved him to the 50 gallon, my swordplants haven't been doing as well. He spent a lot of his time stuck to the back of a rock I have in front of the swords, so I'm wondering if he kept them fertilized while he was back there, lol.

Well, I am glad to hear that Bill. That is what I have always heard. However, I also know it is more expensive and requires knowledge about stuff like specific gravity, protein skimmers, and other things I am not familiar with.
If this counts, I also cleaned out/threw away some of my old fish food and stuff I knew I wouldn't be using.
Any other project guys?

I was at Walmart today and ended up speaking to several people about what would work and what wouldnt regarding fish and tanks today. It got me to thinking I need to revisit trying to start up a local fish/aquarium group. Craigslist here I come!

My projects are too numerous to mention. Mostly research and discussions with others in the business (such as Quality Marine and Kokaho Aquarium as to their results in many tests, etc.)

Nothing for just pure relaxation in the field Carl? I have my small aquarium in my bedroom, & I still get some enjoyment from a 60 freshwater (with Mbuna) and 60 fish only marine tank. My time is so short as I work 70 plus hours + AND I am the primary caregiver for my family (cooking, getting kids ready, etc.) that I have no time and often no money to do more "pleasure aquarium keeping" as I used to (10 years ago I had a whole room of my previous residence with racks of aquariums). I also live in a very small home now, just 950 square feet, so there is no more room. Carl

I'm glad you enjoy the your fish. By the way, before this, I really had no idea what kind of fish you had or what setups. Nice to finally hear about them.
