WOW! didn't think that hydro sponge was going to be so big, I was thinking it was going to be this little filter to hide in the corner. BUT anyway Carl, I took the extention piece off the bottom thinking it would help but The (i forgot what it is called) But the tube (not air tubing) but the thicker one that sits on the bulls eye, It isn't submerged in the water, all the way. most of it is. but the top is out of the water is this ok? or am I going to burn it up or anything?

Is the sponge part under water? That is all that matters, as the lift tube can be cut to fit your aquarium (as is often necessary for very low profile tanks). What size Sponge filter did you get and what size tank is it going into (I know you have stated this before, but I cannot remember) Carl

I had to put rocks on top of mine to keep it down in the pond

I got the #2 and yes the sponge is in the water all the way, It's just a 5 gallon, that's funny I did think about cutting the tube. I'm glad you said it would be ok... i guess I just needed the go ahead I just didn't want to ruin it... Crack the thing or something..

Good!
John also makes a good point as they can float when new (over time the weight of organic matter/saturation will hold it down)

;D i actually found that out the hard way too, i thought I had it all fixed and about an hour later it was floating at the top of the tank... I had to layer the gravel on top of it, But to be honest, I don't know how long that will hold right now either... i will probably go home and find it at the top again ;D

Have you tried squeezing the air out of it? I always do that whenever I get a new sponge filter because they like to float when new.

the one in my pond is 6" tall and 5" in diameter - sponges and plastic float + I'm powering it w/ a Whisper 90 - I still have to keep rocks on it - If I had big fish in there I'd have to anchor it down - works great though!
