Today i noticed WHITE worms on a rummynose tetra. One is in the eye out the mouth(GROSS) and the other worm is thru the fin. Any ideas what they are, will they spread and how the heck i got em?? Im trying to get vids but the poor fish is very uncomfortable so hes shy. I will not treat untill i know what it is.

These appear to be a Parasitic Round Worm (Nematodes)Sterazin (which contains malachite green 0.08%w/w, formaldehyde 0.2%w/w, piperazine citrate 0.34%w/w and acriflavine hydrochloride 0.055%w/w.) may work for this. Also products with praziqantel or a combination of ParaGuard and Metronidazole may work for these. Carl

The praziqantel i have is in tablet form. Can i use this?? Its says dont use on tetras loaches and baby fish, i have all three in my 100 gal!! And do you reckon all my fish are infected since only the one has shown signs. Carl do you really think its round worm?? I thought they only infected fish on the inside? I checked the tank today and all looks normal. I did buy some java moss and some rummynose tetras a few months back- no QT -_- I know....i reckon thats how they got in. I currently have a spare 10 gal mature QT now but that doesnt hepl me hey. Thanks for your help carl.

And do you reckon all my fish are infected since only the one has shown signs. Carl do you really think its round worm?? I thought they only infected fish on the inside? Do you know the dosing information or mg of each tablet? I have not observed any problems with praziqantel when used with Tetras (I have not done a scientific study either though). This may be a higher dose too, so try cutting the dose in half. Adding medicated Fish Baths (salt, Methylene Blue, Metronidazole) to your treatment regimen may be a good idea too. The ParaGuard/ Metronidazole treatment might be more safe too. As for type of worm, I am 90% sure this is a roundworm from the picture, the question of what type is where I am unsure. "I thought they only infected fish on the inside?"; This is a good point, as the majority of Round Worms are found more internally, while this worm seems to be just under the mucous ("slime") coat, being more of a surface parasite. That said, this should make treatment much less difficult as well since medications (or even medicated baths) should have little trouble getting to where that are needed, unlike deeply internal parasites where medication delivery is 2/3 the battle. I definitely only use a half dose (about 10 tabs) and combine this with a medicated bath. Also you might consider only the medicated baths if there is only one fish with this worm problem. Carl

I removed the visually infected fish and debated for quite some time to add or not add the Praziquantel. I decided not too as some of my fish would most likely die. I have not added anything new or done anything different and i see no signs still. Im hoping they are gone and the tetra was one of the 20 i bought not too long ago. Carl is there a chance im still infected?? Im setting up another tank soon and want to be comfortable transfering some fish from this tank to the new one. Its been nearly four weeks since i removed the fish. I will not buy new fish for some time yet. Just to be sure.

Unfortunately yes, but I think the chances are low. My opinion is based on the fact that these worms did not seem to be the typical intestinal worms that go through cycles in your aquarium environment. The picture you provided suggested a more static worm that likely was endemic to only the fish that had them.
Of coarse this is an opinion, so I would still use caution
