Hello all!
I was very excited to find this forum! I've kept fish for most of my life, but I'm ready to take my hobby to the next level. I'm about to start my first planted aquarium and will need a lot of advice along the way. I've got a 55 gallon with Eco-Complete substrate up and running. I plan on moving my two fancy goldfish into it, once planted. I've decided to go with the low-tech, non-C02 injected, low-light route with extra hardy plants to survive the goldfishs' appetite and curiosity. I'm about to make decisions on lighting and filtration. I'm sure I'll have lots of questions and look forward to learning from everyone's experiences!
Take care!

Hi Mircalla. Welcome to Everything Aquatic. It sounds like you'll have quite a nice tank running for your goldfish once everything is set-up. I too keep goldfish, but in a simple barebtoom 40 gallon with just a bubbler, plastic plants, and a filter. I'm not very knowledgeable on the technical aspects of aquariums but if you ever need help concerning goldfish, I am you person to talk to. However, I know others here can answer your other questions. Anyway, thank you for joining this forum. I hope you enjoy it!

welcome to EA. although not an experienced gold fish keeper....i do know you`ll have a tough time keeping these carp away from almost any plants. there are banana lilies that could live through their apetites...but are probably not the appearance you are looking for. there are ppl here with alot of experience in both goldfish and plants. i am certain there will be lots of info coming your way...

Welcome to EA Mircalla!!! I have a 55g Planted tank with eco-complete (for the looks only). I suggest getting MTS (Malaysian? Trumpet Snails) They are the long corkscrew type. They burrow under the soil and keep it aerated/tilled. The draw back of these guys is that they have live babies (don't lay eggs) so you "could" get over run with them....BUT I have heard that GF eat snails . Plants that I have are Java Fern, Dwarf Anubis, Regular Anubis (oops mis-marked), 3 types of Crypt, and 2 others that I can never remember the name. I have a community tank of Platties, Black skirt and White skirt (fruit tetra?), Serpea, and 2 dwarf spotted puffer (for my "snail problem"). I don't use CO2 on my tanks either. I don't really understand the light requirements so I can't help you there but Planted Tanks are my thing I really do need to do more studying on the light requirements though
