As I mentioned earlier, some of my goldfish in my 40 gallon are going through a growth-splurt.
Saylme, who noticeably smaller a couple weeks ago is now over the 5 inch mark. Meanwhile, I am concerned about my goldfish that aren't growing that are around 3 inches such and Hansel who is only 2 1/2 inches maybe.
When I got the 40 gallon and put the fish in, they were relatively the same size and I figured each fish would level out at about 4-7 inches over a period of years and that there would be few size differences. (At this point I they would need a pond. lol)
My concern is ending up with a few, or one (in the case of Salyme), huge goldfish in my aquarium and that negatively affect the smaller ones in the tank health-wise. The way Salyme is growing, it could become huge in little time.
Would having one huge goldfish stunt the rest of them being way smaller stunt their growth? Also, in what other ways could it cause harm?
--------------------
Also, the nightmarish theme is coming into my mind about bigger fish eating smaller fish. I know that the fish eat basically any other fish they can fit into their mouth and sometimes fish even bigger than that. In this case, I am worried that if Salyme keeps growing, it will try to eat the smaller goldfish in the tank like Foneme, Hansel, or Aztec.
My goldfish are not aggressive or canniballistic but I'm afraid since they're such fans of food, my biggest fish might turn on the smallest and attempt to eat it.
Is this likely to happen with my goldfish as Salyme grows?
---------------
Last, how should I handle the fish growing at different rates such as this? Is it something to worry about? Should I seperate them or just leave them?
Any input is appreciated. Thanks.
Renee
