Remember a while back when I bought a couple of betta leaf bed/ hammock things? None of my bettas were terribly interested in them, so I was kind of bummed. But I hung onto them just in case.
Well, now one of my females, Red, is getting a little gimpy. It's like she has to drag her back half around and she gets tired easily. I'm guessing she's just getting old. She eats just fine, she looks healthy and the water parameters are the same as always.
Anyway, I put both beds in there at 2 different heights. One is pretty close to the top of the aquarium so she get to the surface to breathe and the other is one the other end of the tank a couple inches lower. She uses them all the time! I think it's a big help to her to have something close to the surface to support her if she's tired. I've got a ton of java fern in there, and I just added half an anubias plant and she lays on them as well, but the beds are higher up for her.
I suggest buying one if you keep bettas, if only because it can be help to your betta if they aren't feeling well. They're pretty inexpensive.
Just sharing my little story. Red looks really cute when she's resting on it. I'll try to get a picture sometime.

A picture would be great, as this is an interesting story.
Admittedly this is one of the few products I sell that I nor my sister maintenance company have used prior to my listing them online; they seemed like a clever idea and were inexpensive.
If you ever have the time (& do not mind of coarse) to write a review based on your experience, that would be helpful to provide honest information for prospective buyers of this (this may also deter some from buying this product, but better to have someone buy this Betta Hammock knowing the facts rather than the hype)

I agree with Babygeige. Even though I do not own a betta hammock, I have found in weak/dying bettas that placing something near the water's surface helps them a lot. And it can be hard to arrange a tank so the betta has something near the top it can lie on to get air. The hammock sounds like a very easy/inexpensive solution to this.

I'll definitely write a review for you. I think too that just because my male betta didn't use it, that others won't. They all have such different personalities, my next male might be a lot lazier than Pete was. I bet if I had these when I had my CT male, Jasper, he would have used it. He loved to lounge on whatever he could.

Hi. I don't know if anyone is paying attention to this thread, anymore, but I had read about some male bettas fashioning hammocks for themselves out of leaves. So as babygeige says, bettas have as many personalities as there are specimens-- really cool fish. It's unfortunate that so many are unintentionally so poorly kept.

Yeah, you're absolutely right aquaglory! My first betta loved to lay around on the leaves of my java fern. Other bettas I've kept never rested on anything.
I think my female VT I have right now might be getting to where she'd appreciate having a little resting place near the surface. I'm going to put the hammock in next time I clean the tank and see what happens.
(PS Carl, I haven't forgotten about the review I owe you. I was hoping to get a nice picture to go with it, but never got a good shot of Red. Every time I'd get close enough with the camera, she'd get up!)
