I once again updated my Aquarium Lighting article, this time with more information in the PAR Section as it relates to Red Slime Algae. As well in the Suggested lighting section near the end of this long article. Aquarium Lighting; Red Slime Algae, Light SuggestionsCarl

Carl, at some point could you write an "aquarium lighting for dummies" article? I could really use that, whenever I try to read your lighting article my brain hurts and smoke comes out my ears. I'll gladly analyze the cultural, socioeconomic, and political trends of inter-war Europe that led up to Hitler's rise to power or how the fragmentation of society in the USSR allowed Stalin to carry out his sweeping reforms that killed millions of innocent people or even though Kirk Vonnegut claimed that Slaughter House 5 was not an anti-war novel that the very style of the prose suggests a fundamental break from the societal norms that caused the war therefore making it an anti-war novel. But man that lighting article just cooks my noodle every time.

I love history too, in fact outside of my research in the areas of fish/pond keeping, this is where about 50% of my available reading time goes (I never read fiction), the other half is related science endeavors such as meteorology and religious. As to your point, I do have a basic break down in the "suggestions" area which is basically a summary of the 90% of the article that precedes it. The problem for me in this article in particular, is that this is an area where even with all this scientific research, most in the aquarium industry are still to this day passing around the same tired information that is seriously out of date (one of our occasional members; BC, to this date posts sadly out of date information at YA about lighting on a regular basis, which makes me bang my head against a wall. When persons within the hobby confronted me over the years as to why my conclusions often differed from the norm I have found that good scientific research shuts them up (which is how I view history or my views on the man caused Global Warming Hoax). I often utilize "outside" research such as inside greenhouse/horticulture industry lighting reviews and similar to gain information (sort of "follow the money" as these guys have use methods/products that work, rather than the common anecdotal musings inside the aquarium hobby where real results are never measured nor to they make the difference in the success of an entire industry). I am working on a new web site that is essentially over views of mine and others articles in a "readers digest" format, and this article will likely be added, so your points are certainly well taken, but I need my main article to back up what I am saying, as this subject along with Redox, UV Sterilization, Chemistry & Medications seems to generate the most questions/emails (often not friendly) as to explanations. BTW, please do not take my long winded diatribe as an an attack on your suggestion, only an explanation and what I am doing to address yours (& others concerns) via the "Lighting Suggestions Section" & the new website. I admit that the article is very hard for me to follow. But I know your reasons for writing it the way you do. I just hope that people are not just getting silenced by the lighting information but are also understanding it and putting it to use with keeping their fish as I know is the main point of it. This is NOT an attack on your article, just my opinion. Thanks for updating by the way.
