I think getting rid of them was for the best. So they don't reproduce more and cause you more trouble than good with taking care of so many.

I still have 2 tanks left actually but may be shutting one or both of them down too unfortunately......the pond was nowhere near as much fun or pleasure as last year - it was extremely hard to keep clean w/ all the concave surfaces - the water hyacinths loved it though and I'm sure the fish did as well - thank you all for your support

Believe me one is better than none if it can be done, I went from a dozen in my home plus the loss of all the 100s of client's tanks (which I treated most like my own, and most customers recognized this), & this was not fun. Obviously I had no choice and this may well be your situation as well, but if someone had given me some option to salvage at least one I would have taken them up on this (no such option was forth coming, only ridicule, but that is a story for another day). So I guess my point is I would be honored if there is even a little help I could provide to help you keep at least one without too much stress to ruin your enjoyment. Carl

Sorry the pond wasn't much fun this year. Hopefully you will be able to start it up again next summer.

OK - the truth comes out - when my fish marketability fell thru, I didn't have the heart or the means or the $ to euthanize them - offered them for free and got no response! finally found someone who wanted them for feeders so that's where they went - nice people, but it seriously put a damper in my sprirts as far as raising live bearers - it used to bring me such joy to produce quality and beautiful fish from well selected stock - now I feel like crap to have done what I did, but I had no choice - am fairly sur my days of raising live bearers are over - thank you Carl for your generous offer - I have 8 horses I can't get rid of - wife refuses to give them away and keeps buying food to keep them alive, even at the potential risk of losing our home and breaking up the family - my spirits have been rather low w/ both of us unemployed, thus my lack of forum particiation - but now I have come clean - hope you all understand now why I haven't been around much - forgive me for not being my normal jovial helpful person, just going thru a very serious bad time - I reallly miss you all and care about you a lot - Murdock

I kinda thought this may have happened, but at least they still were used for a purpose (maybe not one we would prefer admittedly), but I still think this is better than the other alternative.
Anyway, I certainly understand the situation, even if there is little I or others here can do, but please let me or others know if we can help

Very sorry to hear about your platys, I'm somewhat surprised nobody would take at least some off your hands for keeping.. maybe the people who took them would be tempted to keep some instead of using them all as feeders. Hopefully by next summer things will be alot better and you can get back into the hobby more but I understand why it has to be low on your list of priorities now.

yeah john....i am sorry too. wish i had some interest in live bearers...i woulda taken a hundred or so. but as feeders they serve a purpose to their lil lives. way better option than euthenazia. i tip my hat for that....

Sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy your pond much Murdock. And also that you had to give them away. But it was better they went to some use in feeding another animal than being euthanized.
I wish you the best of luck financially. My dad is homeless right now due to unemployment (as well as alcoholism which I will not go into) so I can sympathesize with you what you are going through.
Best of luck Murdock,. I know you will get through this!
