Tank Size: 20g Age of the tank: .....I dunno 3 years? pH: Ammonia: NitrAtes: nitrites: GH/KH: Temperature: bout 80 Fish: Powder Blue Dwarf Gourami
Symptoms: So guys, this new thread format is interesting....haven't posted for help in awhile apparently.
Either way my new fish isn't doing well at all and I don't expect her to live the rest of the week really. She hasn't really eaten much of anything since i got her. And she was looking better for a day there but now she's worse again. No signs on her body about any problems that could be causing it. Her fins are a bit tore up but its really really hard for me to see any sort of fin rot or not. Either way I think there might be some swim bladder issues, she can't swim straight she tips her nose up and she cant sit on the button upright anymore, only on her side or if she leans on the glass. She looks really weak and still breathing really hard. But beside that, that's all that there is for symptoms. I have been giving her daily methylene blue baths, yesterday I started adding some melafix to the tank in case it is fin rot I really can't tell and I can't get any pictures for you guys that would help you out, it's not showing anything. And right now I have her in a meth. bath with some kanaplex. I'm not really sure what else I can do really, I don;t think she was well when I got her, she seemed fine in the bag and in the tank, but there were a few in the tank that weren't doing well at all, and as soon as I got her home and acclimated her she started looking worse so I honestly don't think it's anything I've done or anything with my tank.
Give me some other ideas guys, thanks.

I'm sorry your fish isn't doing well. It sounds like you are doing everything you possibly can for her. I haven't any idea what could be going on with her but hopefully some of the more experienced people here can give you some ideas. I hope for a speedy recovery for her.

the problem is Sam....with her having swimming issues and eating issues....they can be symptoms of any number of conditions. can you add a lil more info? do you have a hospital tank? at this point not knowing what it is , i would try a general cure which has metrodazinol(however you spell that word). also up the salt level a lil bit wouldn`t hurt.
sorry she is doing so badly ...any extra info would help out greatly....

Aw, poor Bea looks so sad! I'm sorry she's not doing well! Bill's salt idea sounds good. I know when my old betta Jasper wasn't feeling well for about a week (he'd just lay on the bottom of the tank all day), I added some extra salt and turned up the temp in the tank a teeny bit and he snapped out of it pretty quick. I know they're different symptoms, but it's a worth a shot! Good luck!

my guarami was short lived so my experience also short lived what i can tell you is the result of what happend to him. from your pictures it doesnt come up clearly but those 2 little tenticle like fins called the ventral fins are almost as crucial to your little guys survival as his heart or lungs are its an extremely sensitive part of the fish. mine happend to fall off or get ripped off causing swimming issues and acting about like you described id just check his little fins to be safe but as for fin rot i dont see any symptoms of that in your pictures i think your safe from that area i think its more of an internal problem if the ventral fins are all intact still.
good luck, im sorry to hear about it i just went through a loss of my eldest tank buddy!

These are beautiful fish (in fact your powder blue is my favorite) but I had heard that the ones you buy at your typical LFS are highly susceptible to disease and often live only a few months even with pristine water conditions (plus you said others in the LFS tank didn't look so great). Since you don't really have good external clues to narrow things down perhaps some sort of broad spectrum treatment that is effective against both gram negative and gram positive organisms is warranted?

Sorry to hear that she is not doing well. I'm afraid I don't know what is wrong with her but it sounds like you are trying the best you can to save her. I wish her a speedy recovery. Your fish is in my thoughts and prayers.

Although only a guess, this gourami appears to suffering from stress from poisoning, most likely nitrite/ammonia (this picture says much & feel this is likely the problem) Your idea of a bath is all that you can do, I would add salt (1-2 teaspoons per gallon) and Kanamycin (Kanaplex) as well. The odds are not good, but I have seen fish suffering in just this way and have brought them back with only these baths Carl (I am still out of town, just checking in from a borrowed computer)

thanks for all the comments and help attempts guys, I know I don;t have much to give you guys for information. But carl I think you are right. She's doing worse and worse. She can;'t swim anymore, she lays on her side or propped up if she can from being pushed by the current or whatever and shes hardly breathing, I have to look reaaaallly close to see her breathing. I am 99% expecting her to die today or tomorrow. I am doing all I can and I will keep you guys updated.

Bea died today, not sure when because I was at work but she was alive when I left, barely.
Her sides though I noticed when i tookher out were 'bruised' looking right where the fattest part of the belly is in little circles on both sides. So I think it must of being some sort of organ failure. Poor little girl. I hate it when new fish die.

oh i know they are good that way but I already got rid of her, i got her for cheap anyways and I'm not gunna get around to going back up that far north for a little while so i'll just take the loss, I'm not worried about the money or else I would have kept her.

Sorry you lost Bea Sam I think our are correct as to an organ failure, this is often from ammonia poisoning or similar and is often very difficult to bring a fish back form once they get to this point.
