I added more information to my Aquarium Answers article dealing with the use of salt in freshwater aquariums. In particular I added more to the facts/myths section dealing with the use of water softener salt and as well I added more about how much salt is too much (especially as per catfish/loaches) based on a University study; this included a conversion example of mg/L to teaspoons per gallon. Thanks for the update Carl. I read your article. But one question (I may have asked this before), water softener salt doesn't soften aquariu mwater right? It just adds electrolytes like you said in your article?

Thanks for the update Carl. I read your article. But one question (I may have asked this before), water softener salt doesn't soften aquariu mwater right? It just adds electrolytes like you said in your article? It simply adds sodium chloride (& some free sodium and chloride ions as well). From the article: "*Water Softener salt is generally just sodium chloride (always check the bag for added ingredients), so its use when all you need is simply sodium chloride salts is perfectly fine (& economical). The myth that the use of water softener salt will make your tank water “soft” (low GH) is simply incorrect when used normally. "Carl

Thanks for the reply. Sorry if I missed reading that in your article but in all honest, I did read it. I believe you. all is good Renee ;D I miss things all the time, especially when some of my friends that send me really technical articles (like a researcher that sends me stuff about new research into Redox), i often have to re-read several times. Thank you. I do that too. And because I skim articles a lot, I seem to miss out ond details. Then I have to backtrack and reread so I understand better. By the way, I read your AQUARIUM CALCIUM, KH, Ph, GH, MINERAL CATIONS/ELECTROLYTES article last night as you suggested. I am glad that I know that epsom salt is not really a salt but actually magnesium sulfate.
