What do you feed her? What is your filtration, or do you change water regularly (changing even a small amount such as 5-10% per day can duplicate what is also referred to as "flow through water changes/filtration")? How many other fish are in this tank? You could try a salt bath: Aquarium Disease Prevention; Section 9, BathsCarl

She may have constipation (yes even fish get that) or it may be dropsy. Are her scales pinconing? Fastin her a few days is a good idea as is a bath with epsom salt. The link Carl gave explains it in detail.

I think what you are doing now is the best option. the wait and see method for short periods of time, with a few exceptions is always the best. fasting for 2 days is good.....see if the swelling goes down, if not, maybe something as minor as a diet change may be in order. other than the swallen belly, is the rest of her behavior normal??? how old is she???

What are the ingredients of the pellets? I recommend soaking pellets for about 5 minutes in water prior to feeding to allow air to be released prior to fish ingestion, otherwise this can cause bloating or worse (such as Aeromonas). Carl

You were saying the power went off in your house. Is she in a tank affected by the power outage? If the filter/aerator isn't working, that could be part of the problem. If she has not doing well, being without a filter or something for circulation will definietly not help. I second Carl about soaking the food. This can help/prevent problems like this some of the time. Also, I would recommend you put her in a bath with epsom salt. I recently tried it and the it really helps teh fish a lot. I had a bett having trouble swimming upward and it looked like she would die. I gave her about several baths, and she is as good as new if not better. See Carl's bath article for more details. www.americanaquariumproducts.com/Aquarium_Disease.html

Thanks for clarifying. If she seems alright, then perhaps there isn't much wrong with her. How big is her belly? Perhaps she is big because she is full of eggs or maybe even a deformity. Just throwing out some ideas.

Just throwing out some ideas. she has been with me for about 3months now.she doesn't have a bloated belly until last week.i guess i think it's not a deformity. i stopped the fasting after 4 days since i think she really is hungry, and yet her belly is still bloated.she has a pair/mate now,we'll just have to wait if that are really eggs ;D
