I started to look for quotes on this 210 gallon aquarium setup, and so far im looking at 5200 dollars. i think this is way too much.
it came out to 210=1000 stand & canopy = 850 lighting = 1200 overflo and sump = 500
various plumbing and salt= 200 live rock = 1200( def not getting)
pumps and protein skimmer to finish it off.
Is this way too much for this aquarium?

What are the dimensions? Is it glass or acrylic (if this is acrylic this is s fair price if glass no)? As for stand/canopy this also depends on the wood used (if Oak the answer this is fair; if pine, no)? The skimmers and pumps depend on what you get; skimmers in particular can be over priced for what you get, especially for Spray Injection (see: Aquarium answers; Protein Skimmers) This seems a bit high for lighting, but if you are going with only MH, this would be about right. If you went with a mix of SHO and MH (which I would) this would be high. See: Aquarium Lighting; Complete and current informationCarl

Just getting quotes, but i believe they are referring to glass aquariums, standard sizes, i believe 72 inches long with 2 corner overflos.
the stand and canopy are all oak.
the lighting i believe was a system but i want retro fits to save money, i believe he recommended 3 250 HQI MH and T5 actinics.
What do you think carl? i think i might fly in a bunch of different parts from other place than here for cheaper. send me links carl, do you have the wholesaler pass in LA anymore? are you willing to ship livestock carl?

I figured it was a 6 footer; this is pricey for a glass aquarium, but maybe not in your area. I do have wholesale pass in LA, and visit many during my time there, however the high end Marine Wholesaler I visit requires a minimum purchase that would be difficult to meet for one person (many of the low end importers have much lower requirements), so for this reason and time I likely cannot help. The three 250 HQI MH sound good (depending on Kelvin, which I would recommend at 14000). These likely will produce copious amounts of heat, so this may have to be dealt with. Although any light system will require at least fans I would recommend SHOs over the T5 for both price and output. SHO LightsCompact low heat MHCarl

here we have seamless 250 gallon glass tanks with oak stands, large rena filter, in tank sump, large hood with lights(altho not sure what they are equipped with)....basically everything you need for under 2000$. you would have to supply a protein skimmer and uv sterilizer yourself. these tanks are gorgeous too. I guess some things are cheaper in Canada...lol

the 5200 was with live sand and live rock
my newest quote was for 3202 with less stuff but enough, 2600 without a skimmer or mag 5 pump.
basically it came down to 210: 830 over flows = 88 stand and canopy = 1000 + retro MH and PC led lunars for 680 ( 3 150w hqi mh) sump = 218
i have no idea where to go or what to do. i think i could make some of this myself.

$3200 is defintely a better price, as i have sold custom acylic aquariums of this size that I built into the wall for less than $5000. However for this price you should be able to get a good skimmer such as the TMC V2 Skim or ASM Protein Skimmer. I would also note that although the Mag 5 by Supreme (I assume this is the Supreme Mag Drive) is a good pump, at 500 gph you can do much better with equal or better pumps such as the Via Aqua 2600 that is half the price for 740 gph Carl

yea i was going to ask you about the flow, will the difference be enough to power 4 outputs?
the mag pump was like 160 dollars, and im trying to cut back to spend more on livestock.
The protein skimmer they recommended was ESU 220 for 180. i dont know much about protein skimmers, im not sure if this is a good brand, HOB sytle of in tank. which do you recommend.
also for the 210 they dont have corner overflows? they said this aquarium is drilled in the back? does that mean that it has two overflows on the back of the aquarium? does it have any advantages?

Did you read this article I noted earlier in the thread? Aquarium Answers; Protein SkimmersI mention the ESU 220 in this article. IMO and others this is an OK skimmer, but does not have the best needle wheel to properly chop the bubbles. IMO needle wheel skimmers are usually either done right or are not and generally the lower end version such as the ESU are not that great compared to the ASM. I vastly prefer the TMC V2 Skim which is both HOB or in sump As for overflow design, the design you are referring to can work fine as well, just make sure you have poly "sock" or similar such as this one from this article: Marine Aquarium Set Up suggestionsFinally as for pump output, with four outlets from the sump, I would suggest a Via Aqua 3300 at 970 gph which sells for $49.99 I would strongly recommend a UV Sterilizer on one of these outlets as well. never used a protein skimmer in the past so i never read the article, i will check it out.
the way i believe this tank is set up is it has 2 outputs but im going to branch it to a "Y" so we get 4, idk if you would call that 2 or 4.
I like the sound of the pump, 50 dollars is very reasonable so i might look into the via aqua, protein skimmer, and UV.

what about the 8000? too much? I think this would be a bit much at 2200 gph. This is more for ponds or multi aquarium systems. Carl

i found a used 150 gallon with uv, sump, protein, overflows, new pc lighting, stand and canopy, for 700 locally.
good deal? the stand and canopy might need to be replaced. the only thing is no return pump, same pump for a 150 carl?

No need to spend $150 on a pump BC, I think a VA 3300 or comparable pump at 970 gph will be fine, actually a 740 gph Via Aqua 2600 would likely be OK as well. Either way this looks like a much better deal assuming everything is in working order, the tank is in good shape, etc. Carl
