That happens to me too. The salt on the glass around the waterline. It's hard to clean off. It's pretty annoying. I'm not sure what to use to clean it while you still have your tank set up. Vinegar works well if you're taking apart a tank but if you're cleaning while the fish are still in there it isn't a good idea to use vinegar. The fish wouldn't like it in their water.

what you are seeing there probably isnt salt....it is a mineral build up from your water supply....at least if i am reading this correctly. if it is just on the lid, remove the lid to clean it....if it is on the sides, you can use a razor blade to scrape it off. just be carefull not to scratch the tank...

That may be true but I have a 1/2 cup of salt in a water in a container I put my 1 gallons for my bettas to heat them (it's a bit complicated) and residue from the salt builds up much faster there than in my other tanks. I can change out all the water, add the salt and residue builds up in only a few days. Based on this observation, the stuff on my other tanks is from the minerals in the water but probably also from the aquarium salt I put it in there.

I totally agree with Bill here. "Salt Scum" or "Salt Creep" (two terms used for saltwater aquarium salt buildup) is not hard to scrape off and tends to flake and get into everything. The description here matches that of hard water deposits not Sodium Chloride salt IMO Carl

Ok, got it. I was just making sure it was it was deposits and not salt build up. Thanks for clarifying.
