congrats! you did good for a first timer and learned some valuable lessons for next time - Renee is absolutely right about the food - crush your flake into powder - don't overfeed, a little tiny pinch goes a ling way - get mama into the main tank as soon as she's done - you did not get bad advice from Eve, she was trying to save mama! you can keep the fry in a pot if you have to providing you have a heater and a filter and some aeration, oh and a light - I know $ is tight, but I think you can set up a 5-10 gallon if you buy a kit that includes everything for $25 - good luck!

we got a 2 gallon undergravel system with hood and lights for 18 dollars all i had to do was buy gravel.
question is would i be able to skip cycling process if i take 2 gallons out of my established 10 gallon tank. or even my established 28 gallon tank?

i didnt have money for any decorations so its just a tank and gravel and baby fry. so i know it needs more work but at the end of the week ill have it looking good.

that's all you need - some cheap plastic grass w/ a rock to hold it down would be good enough cover but they don't really need it - what about a light and a heater? 11 is good! again, congrats!

it came with a light. but the light puts off massive amount of heat i think if i added a heater into it that would be overkill on water temperature. i think ittle work great. it is rather bare but i didnt wanna spend the extra cash to get a fake plant. ill just leave it bare till i get some income tax returns.

very very cool! mi 1.6 came the same way and the light does put off heat but you have to remember, the light is not on 24/7 and high and low drops in temps can weaken or kill them - I suggest you put it near one of your tanks w/ a heater in it on the heater end of the tank.....

Nice pictures. Cute fry. They look just like mine. lol
But you will need a heater though. When I first kept guppies and my female had babies, I put the adults into a 2 1/2 gallon with no heater. It was summer at the time and abou 71-74 F in the house everyday. And almost immdietley my fish got cotton wool, fin rot, and I beleive also a gill parasite. Adult guppies need it warm but fry need it even warmer. I keep my fry tanks at 79 F. Without a heater your fry could die or just as bad, come down with a fustrating ailment. Also, the ligth cannot be kept on 24/7. It's not natural for the fish to have it on over 16 hours a day tops. Hope that helps!

thanks renee, no i dont have my light on 24/7 i usually turn it on around 12 oclock noon and turn it off either 11 pm or midnightish. so its on for atleast 11- 13 hours a day. im going to figure out this heating thing. i might be able to have them on top of a heating pad or something. i just dont have money or an extra heater. they all seem just as active as they were yesturday i been keeping an eye on them.
thanks for all the help.

tiny heaters aren't that expensive - Carl sells them! email him! go to the menbers section - under Carl you will find american aquarium products as his email address - if you click on that, you will be able to contact him directly for the proper wattage you need - there are also links available here on the home page to help you determine what you need

baught a few power strips and moved the grow tank to the 28 gallon tank right next to the heater. im hoping this will work for the time being im also looking at carls products for future purchasing ideas. count is still at 11 and everyone looks really happy planning to do water changes on all the tanks this weekend and from what ive read up on for the fry tank a 50 percent water change is recomended. so please correct me before i do it if its not recomended.
also read that the more you feed the little boogers the faster they can grow and faster they will fight off disease. they said up to 5 times a day. so if anyone with experience on fry could give me a ratio that i can go by i would apreciate it.
every 3 hours? every 4 hours? or whatever you think may be best for feeding times.
thanks a million James.
also found a few buyers for when they get bigger. they said they will pay 50 cents per half inch of fish. if this is a good buy let me know. i did the math the adults that i baught that made the babies were about 2 or 3 dollars at full grown 2 inches. so thats about an average of 62.5 cents so i think thats not to bad of a sell for some free babies that i know will be overwhelming in less than 3 months.

1st of all, if you want them to grow, they need a larger tank - they will be fine where they are for maybe a month, after that w/ the tiny undergravel filter they will die of nitrate poisoning as all their poop and uneaten food settles down to the bottom of the tank under the gravel- they NEED a heater, what I suggested was only a temp fix - I would say 30-50% water change a week and add the water slowly - turn off the filter when feeding them - this will keep the food where you want it instead of blowing it all over the tank and getting sucked down under and teach them to swim to the top for food - overfeeding will kill them quicker than not feeding them at all (explained above) - 3x a day should be plenty! it will take 4 months or more before they're ready to sell so don't count your $ early LOL!

I feed my fry 2-3 times daily. i read once to feed 5 times daily too but I quickly realized I was overfeeding when there was uneaten food and the fry started looking really fat. You will need a bigger tank than a 2 gallon (actually, I have that same tank exactly and I believe it is a 1 gallon). Though with only 11 fry, you might be able to get away with keeping some in there for a couple months if you give some away.
Best of luck.
