ask you lfs if they're interested - don't waste your time at petsmart or other chain petstores - the're locked in to buying only from one source - you may not get cash, maybe store credit...

i just called the only other petstore in the tri county area of my home its a small petshop called charlies aquarium in pekin illinois. the lady said she would take them when they are ready. now my question is what should i put them in for the 15-20 minute drive to the petstore? and has anyone had any luck using Styrofoam coolers or containers that most bait shops sell minnows in?
and im not suggesting using the used ones but maybe tracking down a brand new minnow cooler?

the styrofoam cooler work great! I have used 5 gallon pails - make sure the lid is secure - couple of drops of methylene blue doesn't hurt - plastic lunch cooler works too - just make sure car is warm if doing it in cool weather - buyers appreciate white containers so they can see the fish - square corners make them easier to net (found that out the hard way w/ the 5 galoon pail)

I second that Murdock. I am also breed guppies, or rather they do it for me. lol I'm actually selling some within a few days and I must say, specialty fish stores are your best option. Stores like Petsmart won't take them in no matter what. Good luck finding homes for them. You could also give them to friends or family who are interested. Just remind them to seperate the males from females.
Good luck with your fishies!

the white styrofoam coolers work great for transporting fish.....they are porous and help to oxygenate the water during transport. don`t get discouraged if they say they`ll take them for free with no financial return. at best they`ll give a few cents apiece unless you have an amazing strain that is hard to find. also be aware.....if they are a common strain, they may go into the guppy feeder tank. make them promise thats not where they are going no matter what you decide to do....

awesome soo styrofoam coolers it is any suggested size. height x width x length?
also im not too concerned about getting money for them im planning to keep the prettiest males out of the fry and a few different females that i think would be interesting to mate. and when i get a good school roughly 15 to 20 im going to move the males into the new tank. and leave the females in the 10 gallon as for building a harem and then i should be more then ready to start the breeding hobby the right way.
all my guppies are fancy guppies soo im pretty sure i cant get any true breeds out of them but if i do end up lucky enough to get a few of them to breed and all of them come out with the same colors im going to quickly buy a new 10 gallon tank and keep them in that tank soo i can continue breeding those 2 guppies and possibly have a new breed of fancy guppies that are not quite a true breed but close to one that a local shop can have a tank with just my guppies in and then *thinking way out of the box, they might possibly want to buy them off of me or give me store credit for them*

My husband transported some fairly large fish in a styrofoam cooler from Virginia to Florida. What a road trip that was! Just buy the standard size they sell at the bait or convenience store. You might want to ask the people at the LFS what they are really looking for. I have found that well bred fancy guppies with good straight backs are in high demand in my town. Also, you might want to think about putting an ad on Craigs list for your fish. Just make sure you update the ad regularly, pictures are always good, and try to underbid the LFS's and don't mention the fact that you are independently selling them to anyone who works at the LFS.

When I took my baby snails in, I put them in my lunch cooler. Was almost 70 of them in there. The lady I trade with got a big kick out of it! Thought I was bringing her lunch...Told her they were hers to do what she wanted with.... ;D

also....for those of you looking for cheap styrofoam coolers.....stores that sell live crabs and lobsters have these in abundance. the crabs and lobsters are shipped in them. they get so many they would probably just give them away...
