I took several pictures and video (the video still needs to be edited) while on my monthly business trip to LA. Here are a few (more from this trip can be found here: My Pictures; 4) Aspens just past peak off of Highway 395 about 70 miles south of the Nevada State line: Discus in a friend/breeder/business contacts aquarium: Mt. Whitney, the highest point in the lower USA (not the greatest picture, as th sun was in the wrong spot and I had to zoom a lot besides). I would have taken more pictures of the Sierra Nevada Mtns., (I love the sierras and Rockies ore than any other ranges of mountians) but the time of day was about the worst possible to show off their beauty. I have more pictures including a Vivarium and Reef tank with LED at My Pictures; 4Carl

beautiful Carl! thanks for sharing! at least some parts of your trip are not all boring highways! Thanks John! The quickest route is Intersate 5 which is mostly flat, hot and boring (which is how I generally travel, especially going down when time is most critical). However US 395 (and Hwys 36, 44, & 89) goes north via the mojave desert, the eastern Sierra Nevada Mtns. parts of Nevada, near Lassen National Park and then joins back with I-5 near the Oregon border. This route takes about 2.5 hours longer (although the coastal route is longest which I never take), and this allowed me to stop by a friend who lives in the desert of So. CA. and my sister-in -law who lives in Reno and put put me up for the night on Sat. The down side to the Eastern route is in Winter, much of this route is over 5000 feet (some places over 8000 feet) and time spent driving on chains and dealing with the high snow falls that the Sierra are famous for can add hours to the drive. Wow! It msut be beautiful out there. I've seen mountains in Tenessee and other states. I still remember on my trip from Florida to Michigan when I was 7 1/2. My parents had gotten a divorce and we drove all the way to Michigan in only 3 1/2 days! I was actually born in Michigan but I lived in Florida for a few years. Awesome pics. I like them the way they are. You never really see that nice mountainous terrian where I live in Michigan.

Thanks Renee and Jon I wish I could have taken more, as I love the high mountains, especially the ones with Glaciers, meadows and Aspens, but the sun was not in the right spot, the pic of Mt Whitney (which BTW is just under 15,000 feet) took several takes very nice shots Carl. I hope it was fun for you. I'm really sorry I didn't get to call you when you were out on the road last week. Just going nuts running around here all day ha ha. If you see my head roll by, pick it up please. Sorry to read this, if your head bounces this way I will pick it up and mail it back (with some super glue). I never saved your phone number (my bad), so maybe you can email it to me as I thought about calling you during the drive down and back (when I had cell service bars, as the drive back was not as well serviced due to all the high mtns.) Nice pics Carl...I always love to drive places and just look at the country side. I love to drive and look at the country side too, when I lived in So. CA. I often drove up US395 400 miles and then back just to clear my head after "difficulties" I wish the sun was in a better spot or I had more time (& gas $) to turn off the main highway and take some better shots and see more scenery. I also love Central Utah such as Fish Lake or Northern Utah such as Logan Canyon (both off from Hwy. 89). I drove to Fish Lake UT all the way from LA right before we sent my daughter to Oregon and later moved ourselves. Here is a picture from that trip to Fish Lake a few years back (it was Oct.) Carl

Although I am straying from the original content of this thread, here is a picture from Nevada (not far off from US 50) that many persons would never attribute to Nevada and that is Great Basin National Park and 13,000 Wheeler Peak and Stella Lake. A surprisingly beautiful place for being in the middle of nowhere of Nevada: And one more picture of the campground in Fish Lake from this "crazy" weekend road trip in October 2002: Carl
