Here are a couple of shots that I took at one of our Cleveland Metroparks lakes on Monday (I had a day off). A large blue heron was resting on a log after fishing earlier at the far end of the lake.  This guy was so pretty I couldn't resist snapping a pic of him in his finery. Not sure of the species. May be a Mandarin.... or not.  Here are Larry, Curly and Moe taking a break. They are all girls, so I guess they should be Lori, Curly and Moesha....  I have lots more if anyone is interested.... ;D 8 |

Wow, those birds are beautiful. How did you manage to shoot such high quality photos? Thanks for all the compliments, everyone! Funny story about the camera, about 5 years ago I bought my wife a camera and spent about a grand on it. 5 mega pixels, 6x zoom and a bunch of bells and whistles. About a month ago it started messing up and only giving me black and white streaks through the screen and view finder. Called the company and they said it would be over $200 to fix it and maybe more. So I went out and looked at a bunch of different cameras and found one with 7.1 mega pixels, a 10x optical zoom and more bells and whistles than the old camera. It was on sale (lucky for me) and I got it for $149 plus tax. It is a Fuji S700. I am so happy with it, I just had to share some of the pix with you guys. Here is another one:  This is a little female red clawed shrimp, she is about an inch and a half long. Just back lit from a rack of tanks about 6 feet away. This camera will get close ups down to an inch from the subject according to the instructions. I highly reccommend it to anyone thinking of getting a new digital camera. It will even take up to an hour of video on a 2g memory card. Aaaannnnd it runs on 4 AA batteries, not those funky one of a kind batteries that come with most digital cameras. 8 P.S. I love to take pictures, so you guys will be subjected to lots more. P.P.S. I love to look at pictures too, so get busy and lets fill up this photograph section with lots of pix. John |

It is from the Kigoma area of the lake and has 7 bars on it rather than the 6 bars that most of the others have.  His hump is much more pronounced now and he is a bit darker in color. John 8 |

That is another amazing pics. That camera does take great pics. Mine also is a 7.1 mega pixel...I said 7.0 but was wrong. Mine has either 6 or 10x zoom, I think it is 6...So our cameras are probably kind of similar. Mine probably does a lot more then I even know.

our cameras are probably kind of similar. Mine probably does a lot more then I even know. I still am not able to use all the capabilities that mine has. I am trying to learn as I go along. Most of the outdoor shots work well in the Auto setting. Some of the back lit shots need some adjustments in shutter speed and aperature, however. The instruction book is not laid out for easy reading and I am finding out that as I get older I have less and less patience for trying to figure out what they really mean when they say something. For example, just the other day, my wife bought a solar powered light for the patio area. It came with rechargeable batteries (installed) that you have to remove a plastic guard in order to get it to work. Well the instruction paper says to twist off the cover in a "clockwise direction" and the illustration shows an arrow pointing in the counterclockwise direction. The cover is on so tight, that I am afraid to try and force it for fear of breaking it. Now I am going to have to call the manufacturer and see if anyone can tell me which way to actually turn it to remove the cover. Sheesh! Oh well, life goes on no matter what, eh? BTW, I went to a fish auction today and bought a pair of Moscow Blue guppies for $1. I also got 6 small (1") kribensis for $1 and 5 red fin caudopunctatus for $12. I checked online and found that the red fins were going for $16 each....plus shipping. Gotta love those fish club auctions. John |
