I am kinda excited, hopefully I have reason to be...I noticed my Sunshine Peacock being a litlle more aggressive when others come around his little area..He is normally a very mellow dude. He is also moving gravel. Are these signs of possible spawning to come?

He is definitely wanting to spawn...even a newbie like me can tell now. He is just going crazy, he even had the female over there at one point but I don't think it's over.

He is definitely showing aggression and he is such a beautiful bright yellow now...As you could see the difference in the pics. He's had her back there a couple times and they spin in circles, so hopefully one of these times.

I know this may be a stupid question but I am totally new at this breeding thing...Is there a time limit on how long my male will keep trying to spawn? It has been going on for 2 days with and my female is still not holding. Is this normal?

I kind of asked something similar to this last year to John (8) and he indicated to me, males will continue to spawn so long as they are sexually capable of doing so. I wondered what the effects of the absence of females would have when I sold off the females due to over breeding actually. It was indicated to me, that males will not suffer from that and are quite readily able to breed putting females back in at a later time. Unless a male is already sterile, I am thinking they will breed pretty much all the time. I don't know if there is an old age point for males when they would become sexually inactive or not.

This is a good point! I was pondering this question before you answered (thinking back to many of the Cichlid aquariums I kept). This seemed to be the case with all the male African Cichlids I kept when I would move females in or out of aquariums. The mistake I sometimes made (in retrospect), is one John/8 pointed out ; that is sometimes leaving a female in to breed shortly after breeding. Carl

Well, how long can it take before the female will finally give in? Should it be taking this long for her? Does this mean she doesn't like him...even though I think he is beautiful.

there is never any guarentees. she may not be interested, or maybe his courting isnt good enough. to many factors, but there is a good possibility this time around there will be no fry

That's about 10 days from last post, nothing a little time and conditioning can't fix. I'd probably elect to let her sit about a week, make sure those eggs start to develop and then isolate her to a seperate tank.
