I didn't know that mollies kinda flare when they get mad! Last night while watching them, two acted like they were getting ready to fight, and The one had his dorsal fin straight up in the air and tight as it could get and his tail fin was stretched to the limit. I wish I could have gotten a picture but as soon as I grabbed the camera and got it ready they stopped!, I thought only betta did that !!!! Oh well just a cool observation, and wanted to see if anyone else had ever seen them Flare....

fighting and "flirting" display interesting behaviors - some are so similar it's hard to tell w/ live bearers.....

I've seen male guppies flare. It's pretty funny, especially when it's over trying to whoo each other into breeding or to try to attract a female that just wants to swim away. lol

good job! I remember when you couldn't tell the difference! LMAO! ;D yep thanks to sex ed 101 I now know the difference! And as far as them doing this over a female, I haven't seen either one go around her, as a matter of fact the one was just being mean to all of them even the tetra's and they were minding there own business, he was just aggrivating all of them being a big fat BULLY!

My gourami used to do this all the time, he'd even way brighten his colors. I have no females or other males, so I guess he just liked to show off and let the cleaning fish now that he was Mr. High and Mighty and they better not forget it!

My males go after each other. It is very silly. One will try to display to the other, then the one being displayed at swims away as if to say "I'm not a female!" Then the one that swam away will come up to the other wanting to breed. This continues and continues until they decide to stop, 1 takes decides it has had enough and swims far away, or a female is added.
My bettas also do that (not to breed but to fight). I have two bettas. father and son and they are arch rivals. What the younger one fails to realize is that his father defended him with his life when he was born. Fish are quite silly and a bit illogical. lol
