I had guessed that I had eggs, due to the amount of aggression in the tank. This species is a cave breeder, so it's hard to tell what is going on. My husband was playing with the camera last night, and came up with these pictures.

These picture are honestly the first time I've seen the babies. She keeps them well hidden in the cave, and only the male is allowed near.

These are great pictures Barbara, something I would expect to see in a National Geographic article or similar. Congratulations! Carl

Wow, I gave that compliment to my husband, and he's tickled. I may get some more pics out of him for that...he's better by far with a camera than I am, and with the new camera, there are more settings and all to learn.

We just bought it...it's a Fujifilm Finepix S2000HD. It has a 15x zoom, and a fantastic macro setting, which is what was the deciding factor in buying it. I'm learning to use all the features, but my husband is naturally a better photographer than I am.

Great pictures. Mom looks like she's keeping an eye on them 24/7!

Great pictures. Mom looks like she's keeping an eye on them 24/7! She leaves the cave long enough to grab something to eat. The male guards the area around the cave, and she guards the babies. I'm enjoying these fish, and the behavior.

I just found out that this species is a first for my local Cichlid club! My husband loves these guys, so that was plenty enough for my excitement, but it is cool to know that no one else in my club has done this before.
