I updated the Goldfish Basics article with more information about feeding and breeding as well as a link to an article about substrate. This is a more basic article that is not intended for in depth information, rather an overview before moving to more advanced information. Goldfish Basics, CareCarl

Gret article Carl! Us goldfish people were feeling pretty undeappreciated on thi site with all the cichlid stuff going around. (Just kidding) Still, it's nice to see a goldfish article update. I read it briefly and I thought vyou did a great job! Well I still appreciate the goldfish! In fact it is with goldfish that I conducted the majority of my controlled test/studies in th 1980s and 1990s involving Redox, Minerals (such as Calcium), UV Sterilization, and many more. I found goldfish good subjects as so many came into my care via clients and shippers that were unhealthy and found that tests that due to these problems I could get the best results with my tests (which is in part what my Disease Prevention article is based). One reason was it is hard to draw good conclusions with fish that rarely had problems. With these goldfish experiments is where I really blew away all the anecdotal myths in the aquarium hobby about GH, calcium, UV Sterilization, Redox, feeding and more. Despite these tests I have still received more flack in aquarium forums, etc. about my conclusions even though the evidence was quite black and white between the control groups. One guy in Google forum really talked down to me like I was an idiot for even suggestion the use of a UV Sterilizer in a goldfish tank made a difference (needless to say I left this #@#!! group as they were only interested in clinging to their die hard anecdotal BS) Anyway I have the goldfish to thank for many of my successful studies. Sorry to hear that they didn't accept your finding Carl. At least my goldfish appreciate what you've done. *winks*
