holy crap - temps got warm here over the last couple of days! went to feed my pond tonight and it's swarming w/ new fry! AGHHHH! have 100+ fish ready to sell next weekend - what am I gonna do w/ all these fry? gonna get really cold here soon! live in northern Michigan! should have realized the situation I was creating but was hoping to move them much earlier - not so local fish store wasn't ready to take them til the 4th and 11th of October! have never fed live fry before.......my cichlids are coming on the 11th.....is this a realistic approach to the transformation? am sure I'm gonna catch flak on this one.....

Wow, I think you're platies are interested in beating a rcord on rats for reproduction! I'm not quite sure what you meant by " have never fed live fry before". Do you mean feeding the fry to your other fish or feeding the newborn fry? Platies need food right when they are born so I'd think you'd have fed newborn fry before, on the other hand, if you mean feeding the fry to your other fish, I actually have done so before. I've only done it once but I fed a 3 week old guppy fry an adult female guppy because it was the smallest and had a bent spine. If you need to feed the fry to other fish, get a few of the fish you wish to feed tehm to in a small container so the chase will be short and not cause much suffering for the fry. They should eat the fy within 10 seconds. But watch to make sure the fry can fit whole into their eater's mouth; otherwise, the fish may bite at it several times before it is dead and can suffer a lot. But doing so correctly works much faster than alka-selzer or clove oil. Of course the better option might be to give them to a petstore as they are and then they might get adopted out.
Just food for thought.

Congrats again Murdock! On the other hand, I don't want that to end up happening with my guppies. Right now I have 14 adult and sub-adults and about 11 fry.

Females are fatter and more rounded than males. Also, they maybhave a vent that sticks out more like goldfish but with that I'm not totally sure. Also, if your tetras have different color depending on gender, you may be able to tell.

Notice the one? second from the top? that one is the fattest and biggest, But they are all the same color so it would be impossible to tell that way..

They look like cardinals, nice group. With either one you won't be able to tell the sex by the color. The females will be slightly larger and definitely fatter than the males.
They are egg scatterers and if you want to have them spawn, they will need some bushy plants to swim through and scatter their eggs as the males chase the females. Condition them good with high protein food and they should take care of business for you. John
