Current things I need to buy:
1. Brindle Worm culture 2. Vinegar Eel culture 3. Whisper Filter for 40 or more gallons. 4. Heater + Spare 5. Bubbler + Spare 6. 2 air valves 7. vinegar apple cidar 8. obtain a bottle with a neck 9. 2 Hydro sponges 10. T-2 Light Fixtures.
I will probably take me ages to have enough money to buy this stuff but the Whisper for the 40 gallon comes first.
I owe my mom $62 dollars out of my birthday money so that will make it take longer. *sighs* At least I'm improving my fish tanks... slowly....
I will be reposting this, removing or adding items to the list every time I need to buy something or I have bought it.

Renee, you might look at this filter as well, it compares to the Whisper EX45, except is less $ (often even with shipping) and has a surface skimmer feature that the Whisper does not: Via Aqua VitaLife M200 FilterSome of the newer internal Wet/Dry are excellent as well and also are useful when there is no back space for an HOB Filter. Uh oh, I just bought the Whisper today. My mom was insistant on a quiet filter. I looked at the Via Aqua filter and it looks very nice. I'll buy one if I ever need another filter for a 40 gallon or less. By the way, how quiet is it? My mom has great oversensitiveity to noise.
Thanks Carl! Brindle Worm culture Vinegar Eel culture Heater + Spare Bubbler + Spare 2 air valves vinegar apple cidar obtain a bottle with a neck 2 Hydro sponges T-2 Light Fixtures.

The noise level is the same (Via Aqua vs. Whisper) as the impeller design is very similar as well.

I'm really sorry but I don't think I can return it. My mom would go crazy with a filter that is not Whisper, especially since the tank is close to her room, not like all the rest of my seperate tanks that are in my bedroom and bathroom.

Oh no, you got the Whisper, I am NOT asking you to return it, they are good filters too. Carl

there's nothing like sleeping next to a running steam, cascading over the rocks gently falling into water below - of course there is the lull of ocean waves......LOL - if the tide is right

My mom's the opposite to the extreme! lol If there is teh slightest bubbling when hshe is sleeping, even if she is imagining it, she insists that I turn any filters or bubbler near her... even in the next room off. That is why there is absoluetly no fish stuff in her room and the 40 gallon in our living room that is by her bedroom is in the farthest corner. I think my mom may be a bit phobic about sound when she sleeps. Maybe that's why I'm so senstive to sound while I'm doing homework.

Renee,
I have the Via Aqua on my 10g and it is very quiet, I sleep only about ten feet away from it. I never even notice it and I am a light sleeper that can be bothered by noises if I'm trying to sleep. It really is a great filter and if it was noisy trust me I would hear it when I was laying there trying to go to sleep. I don't think I'm quite as bad as your mom though! Sometimes I purposefully make the water level low so I can hear the water cascading in my 38g.

Thanks Kagome. I posted this a long time ago and I've already bought a Whisper filter since then and my mom is happy with it. I know the Via Aqua is a great filter. Thanks for the tips. Next time I get a power filter, I'll make sure I get a Via Aqua (as long as my mom and I don't get into too many fights because she thinks any filter that is not a Whisper is super loud).

You might note to your Mom that ALL modern HOB Filters are of similar design (some have more durable impellers/power units) and are about the same in noise level depending on your aquarium water level. The "Whisper" trade name came about when this company first developed their Whisper Air Pumps, LONG before the Whisper HOB filters came about. As for these air pumps, I have personally always found them way over rated as for quietness, durability, and often overly high price; basically Whisper has done an excellent job of marketing, as has Hagen with their Fluval Filters. Good marketing does not necessarily equal a good product though. Carl

I know... My mom has trouble accepting it. I think she fell in love with Whispers because they were so quiet and she can't stand a filter/bubbler sounds whatsoever. I've been in plenty of fights with her over it. At least she let me get the 40 and she has allowed me to get another power filter that is not a Whisper (forgot the name). She is very very stubborn. She likes looking at the goldfish in the 40 in our the living room though which is a plus since she originally didn't want it there if the first place. My mom can bevery nice but she is definitely not much of a fish person.
