Hey guys, Sorry I haven't been around, exams are all done but now I'm working crazy shifts at Sportchek. Haven't had much time for alot of anything
Anyways, I just thought I'd update you guys on Fred (My oldest living fish and Betta) He's really not looking well at all, and I'm not sure how much longer he is going to last. His tumor on his face is just absolutely massive, horribly massive. And just keeps getting bigger slowly. And his fins are getting stiffer and stiffer, he's having a hard time swimming. His fins are turning white, like hard and white and its spreading onto the scales surrounding the base of the fins.
I have a cup that floats at the surface of the tank for him, on it's side, and he's been laying in it for the last couple days, labored breathing and he really don't come out if he can help it. I have gotten him to eat maybe one or two pellets every odd feeding time but he's not really all that interested.
He just seems old, none of his symptoms point to disease, the tumor but really there's nothing to do about that. So Who knows how long he'll last. He was the first fish I ever got, 2 christmases ago, so he's getting really old. Just thought you'd guys like to know how he's doing.

Sorry to hear that Sam. I hope he feels better. I heard of people doing surgery on huge fancy goldfish to remove tumors buit I'm not sure if that could work on him. Sorry I can't think of any better ideas. You take very good care of him, his age shows that.

Yeah, it just sounds like he's getting old. You did a great job to get him this far, and floating the cup for him to lay in was a really nice idea. I'll have to remember that one!
Sorry though. Poor Fred!

no care and surgery will noticably extend the life of a betta who is at his end. just glad you are keeping him comfy on his last days. hes had a good run....

Poor fishy. I can tell that you really care about him and have given him the best life that you can. The worst part of having animals of any kind is that we almost all outlive them. Kudos to you for giving him such considerate care.

Fred is hanging in there so far. He lasted the almost 2 weeks I was out of town and he must of missed me because he's been eating so so well since I came home. He even gets as excited about dinner time as he can without sinking because he swims himself out of his floating plant! I'm suprised to be honest.

I just did a water change and had to take his floating plant out to clean the hair algae off, so he's a little ticked off at me so we'll see if he keeps his appetite up or if he pouts for awhile now.

Wow...he still even ate tonight despite the water change, usually even when he was younger he wouldn't eat at least the next feeding, he hates water changes!
