Greetings all,
I recently got hold of 10 adult wild P. scalare Rio Nanays - everything is well and they are in splendid shape in the 65gal quarantine tank, but the only problem I found are fish lice that had infested the 6 ditter guppies' gills a few days after the Rio Nanays' introduction. After a few check ups on the other tanks inhabitants, it seems clear that they came with the scalares, which is not necessarily surprising. I suspect they are hiding under the opercules, as the lice seem to be completely absent from the fish's bodies.
Being in Canada, medications are a bit hard to find. I might have access to a veterinary friend for some meds, but I was wondering which ones might be recommended, so I could give him some options. I know most treatments likely will kill any other inverts, but all I've got in there are MTS as a clean up crew - they would easily be replaced with new ones from my other tanks after treatment, and large daily water changes are not a problem in case of large die offs as I already do so for my breedings.
The scalares do not seem to care for them, but I would like to prevent any problem for their future tankmates.
Thanks a lot, Thomas G.
