As some of you may know, I moved into an actual house and had to break down all my tanks. I've had the substrate sitting in 5 gallon buckets outside all summer. Now that it is time to slowly bring tanks back online, I'm concerned about the substrate being skunked. I would hate have to dump it given the money spent on it. This particular one is a sand and flourite mix.
I hope everyone is doing well...

It wouldn't have anything beneficial in it anymore.

Hi guys, Yes Sadly the Covid stuff and the rioting led me to have to turn off Facebook for awhile. I miss the forum on the there but my sanity must come first Since this substrate has been sitting 5 gallon buckets with stagnant for so long would any bleaching be a good idea? I don't want to bring anything crappy bacteria wise into the tank...even with putting one of my Vectons on it... Mike

If your going to use bleach, maybe dilute it. I'm just thinking it would be easier to rinse out.

I kinda figured this to be a reason for your absence, but I am glad to know you are OK too. I agree with Devon on both points. Bleaching will be quicker but needs multiple rinsings as well as the use dechlorinators such as Prime or AAP ProAQua www.americanaquariumproducts.com/Aquatronics.html

Good deal. I'm almost ready to bring that stuff into the house. I also figure while cycling the tank, the Vecton will also deal with some of the no-no's that has been growing in that subtrate...
