I have updated this article, in particular the section dealing with Chloroquine as there is suddenly a lot of incorrect information about this excellent fish parasite treatment (not an "aquarium cleaner" as the media has reported)

"Chloroquine was developed from Methylene Blue (also used starting in 1891 as an anti-malarial drug) & Quinine Sulfate in 1934. The formula of Chloroquine & Methylene Blue is also similar (MB: C16H18ClN3S / Chloroquine: C18H26ClN3).
It has also been well known for years that chloroquine has anti viral capabilities, in part it is believed by being an inhibitor allowing allowing zinc ions to permeate the viral cell wall.
PLEASE NOTE that while Chloroquine shows promise as a treatment for the Covid-19 Virus, likely due to known anti-viral capabilities, NO PERSON should take a fish medication to self treat especially taking 10 times the normal human dose as happened in Arizona. PLEASE seek a doctors advice! (it is also NOT used as a Fish/Aquarium Cleaner)

As noted, Chloroquine or Chloroquine Phosphate is a related drug to Quinine Sulfate or Quinine Hydrochloride that is more effective from my experience (but also easily and fatally overdosed). When combined with Pyrimethamines as in the product "Marex", it can be very effective for treatment of Oodinium as well as other Ectoparasites and Flukes."
