Interesting.
What are your thoughts applying this method on something like a 10 or 20 gal?

I apologize for the multi year delay / I didn't get a notice you'd posted I randomly thought I'd check the board today to see how things were going, how Carl was doing/so glad everyone is doing great. for sure it will work, and the larger volume would be much less evaporation control work as well I made a video update for my 17th year on the vase, hope you guys enjoy! www.youtube.com/watch?v=AvsxbYF1ai4

hard to believe we'd last discussed the pico reef a mere year before the world-changing pandemic.

this system is designed with zero biological lifespan limit. if the organic waste is cleaned out, I predict it'll live 50/100 years/multigenerational just like a Japanese bonsai handed down across generations. even coral disease isn't much of a challenge if we aren't importing new strains/new vectors/and if the functional order of ops pattern is kept it the thing will just run, and run, and run indef. it works exactly the same on year 17 that it did on year 2.

Wow! Thanks for checking in. It has been some time and a lot has changed. Carl retired, but he does come into this forum every so often.
You brought back some memories! I wanted to try this on a 10-20gal.
It's neat you did an update video. The hobby has changed a bit, but doesn't seem like you don't need much if you can control some parameters! Congrats!

So glad to hear you both are doing well, I always wondered how things went during the Covid era for sure. If you do get around to assembling things for a pico reef post here so we can see them B

That was a weird time for sure.
My next saltwater tank actually was going to be a local cooler ocean tank. I have some tanks I've set up outside to start the project. I'm going 1000% keep in mind evap. It's always be a struggle with the smaller salt aquariums. Being outside I think it's going to be a major factor. I plan to seal them 100% but easy way to maintain.
I haven't been moving fast on the idea at all. I've moved this past year, so I'm finally about done setting up a handful of freshwater tanks. When I start this will be the first place I post some pictures.

Thanks for checking back in. Your video was fascinating and makes sense too as often simplicity is the solution (as well as keeping out new additions).
