Hello, I was at a local pet store, and the owner had a few bottles of Aquatronics Dip A-Way. I know that AAP sells a similar product, and Aquatronics has been out of business for some time.
Would this product still be safe to use? My specific concerns would be on the age of the product and conflicting information on how to use it. On the bottle it says you can dip a fish into a solution with the product. However, the AAP comparable product does not say to dip the entire fish (from what I can tell). I have also read some posts about the chemical “merbromin” being damaging to fish’s gills. Honestly, I can find VERY LITTLE information about this product (which is understandable) and almost nothing positive about merbromin unless it’s being dropped/swabbed onto a fish’s body while out of water.
I would like to use this to dip my betta fish and add him to a fresh 20g long planted tank that has been cycling for about 8 weeks. My fish has been sick, and I would like to add as little bacteria from his current tank as possible.
Does anyone who has been in the hobby since before Aquatronics went out of business have experience to share about this Dip A-Way product? Will it hurt my fish if I follow the bottle’s instructions?
Thank you!!!

Dip Away is a more diluted Merbromin formulation similar to the more concentrated version found in Wound Control which AAP has brought back to the market Merbromin has a very long shelf life, so this product should be safe to use (I used it myself many times in the past). This said I preferred the more concentrated Wound Control formulation as a swab and then used MethyBlu (Methylene Blue) as a dip Resource: www.americanaquariumproducts.com/Aquatronics.html#woundCarl
