Does anyone know if things like wood stain and paint thinner stay on your hands even after you wash with soap? If so how long should I wait before putting them in a tank with fish? Thanks, Mark

I would think they would evaporate over time. Could use longer gloves if your worried.

It always seems to me that stain or oil-based paints kind of soak into the skin, even when I've really cleaned my hands. I would give them a good sniff test. If you can still smell it at all then I would go with Devon's suggestion and wear gloves when you put your hands in the tank.

Well, I waited 24 hrs before I changed the water and every one is fine. No sudden deaths. I always wear gloves when working with stain but more often than not I end up with a leak on one of the fingers. I guess I need stronger gloves.
