So, my early Christmas present is coming tomorrow. I'm going into Pensacola and picking up some Boesemani Rainbow Fish for my planted tank. I moved the Tiger Barbs from that tank in with the other barbs in my son's tank.
I did a big water change on all the tanks today so everything is good to go tomorrow.
I'm so excited!! I love this species and have always wanted to have them again. I called ahead to the LFS to make sure they have them in stock. They're 2-3 inch juveniles.
I also ordered a new MillionAir pump from Carl today. It's the 600 so I'll have two outputs. I'm going to have an airstone at each end of the tank.
I have to admit, I feel like a little kid on Christmas Eve. I can't wait to go get them!! I also promised to pick up a Rainbow Shark for my son's tank.
Pictures coming soon.

Boesemani Rainbows are one of my favorites.
When I had my LFS, we had a 60 gallon tank with nothing but different varieties of Rainbows.

So I picked up 4 Boesemani yesterday. I'm really surprised at how colorful they already are given that they're so young. They're already eating like little piggies. Yesterday the Rainbow Shark didn't know what to make of them but now he is back to letting everyone know he is the boss of the tank. I think I'll have to order what I want.

SWEET!!! I will definitely take a look. I know I want ludwigia repens. I think the red will look awesome in the tank. So my husband helped me get the MillionAir pump set up. I have to say, that is the quietest air pump ever. As other pumps die around the house I will definitely be ordering more. With the dual outputs I've now got airstones running on both ends of the tank. There is so much more flow in the tank now. So here's my planted tank, now with BUBBLES!! So it looks like he got chomped and it's so funny. Untitled by Katherine Morgan, on Flickr

I like the MillionAir pump so much that I ordered two more. I can't believe how loud the other pumps are in comparison!

I like the MillionAir pump so much that I ordered two more. I can't believe how loud the other pumps are in comparison! For what I would call an economy pump, they last longer, put out more air, and are more quiet than most twice the price! www.americanaquariumproducts.com/MILLIONAIRAIRPUMP.htmlCarl

Those look really nice. My wife wants me to get some of those. How big of a tank do you have them in? I have a 65 gal tank with a base of 20” x 36” that I’m getting ready to start soon but I’m not sure if that’s long enough for them? There’s too many conflicting articles out there and I’ve never had them before. Thanks, Mark

I've seen them kept in 30 gal tanks. I'm sure the more room, the better.

This is a 40 gallon long so it's about 3 1/2 feet long. I have kept this species in this tank before and they did really well.
They do like a long tank but you could keep easily keep a group in a 65 gallon. They like to hide in plants when they're young but once they get to be adults they mostly hang out in the open water high in the water column.
They are stunning, the pictures do not do them justice.

They are well worth it. As juveniles, they look pretty cool. They're active and don't tear things up or beat other fish to death like so many cichlids do.
But as adults, they are STUNNING. Their colors are so bright, the bright blue up front with the bright yellow on their tails. You can easily see them across the room. They are show stoppers. They get good-sized but aren't giant tank busters. They're pretty hardy.
All around, a great fish.
