thanks, Mike I wish I had several in wall tanks just as you described, but at the time I either did not take pictures, or the customer wanted their privacy. On common method was the trim simply inserted into the wall, with a space between the aquarium and wall that a slat of wood from the trim would fit into so as to hold it in place. A couple had hinges (but I preferred the first method), and in several cases the trim was not at all removable, rather the aquarium was simply serviced from the rear Carl

Carl, I was thinking about a slat method like you suggest, but I have limited clearance because of poor stud placement to the drywall. I was also thinking about magnets. Any opinion on using magnets?
Thanks, Mike

hmm. I personally haven't, but maybe a picture of the issue with the stud.

so the image needs to be rotated 90 clockwise, which I can't figure out. then you see the plastic cap over the drywall edge, 1" to the right of that is where the trim will start. it's 5 1/2" wide so that it will go past the overflow in box. the drywall is glued to the stud, painted white with Kilz. and directly behind the stud is the secondary pipe, 1" pvc with unions, for the beananimal drain. no room for slats.

I've never used magnets, but that does not mean this would not work
Do you have this same space below as you do above?

I've never used magnets, but that does not mean this would not work Do you have this same space below as you do above? Carl I don't. The drywall is attached to the stand, and the tank sits back roughly 1". The trim will have blocks mounted on the back side of it to sit on the opening in the drywall, supporting the weight of the trim. Above those blocks will be a piece that goes on the inside opening of the trim, hiding the tank plastic trim and glass edges, with 1/8th clearance to the front glass. The trim is 5 1/2" wide. So I'm thinking magnets at the upper corners and maybe one centered all on the top piece of trim.
