Has anyone had long term success with keeping some of the snail types like Trapdoor, Nerite and Rabbit Snails? I'm hit or miss with Nerites...having some live for years...trapdoors never live long...I've only kept them long term in ponds...and Rabbit Snails die fairly fast. They are always kept in good filtration and water quality. Assassin Snails are the only ones I can keep consistently long term...
I'm intrigued with some of the odder varieties of snails and think they would make a great addition to some of my smaller tanks..

Snails have not been an area I have focused too much time on. I've not knowingly kept Rabbit snails
It is interesting you note that you have done better in ponds with Trap door snails, as this has been my observation too.
More often my dealing with snails in aquariums has to do with customers wanting me to get rid of them.
I will further into this, but please feel free to further educate us too

Snails do better when there's higher amounts of decay IMO... if the tank is too clean, there isn't much for them to feed on. My experience with snails is they thrive when I just let the tank go.

Devon you may be right...given the point about Pond success with Trap Door snails that Carl and were discussing. I'm going to do some more search, get a tank ready for a test bed and order some varieties and see what happens. I am guilty of putting snails in a clean tank, but I did provide plenty of food sources....however it is not fully clear to me what they naturally are used to eating. If there is no fish dooty for them to access..that could be a problem...
