So my tanks have undergone some changes in the last few months. I still have the rainbows in my 38g tank. I have figured out that the albino bushynose pleco that I paid quite a bit of money for is actually a $5 rubber-nosed pleco. I'm a little ticked that I paid way too much for her, especially since I bought her with the idea of breeding her when I still had a male. But I guess them's the breaks, I bought her too long ago to make a big deal about it now and I really like her anyhow. I still also have the high fin spotted pleco in that tank and he's doing really well and there is not a scrap of algae in that tank. The plecos also do a great job keeping all of the gravel and decorations and even the sponge prefilters are not spared their constant scraping.
In the 20g tank I have lost both ram cichlids over the last 3 months. First the female died on me and then the male died last month. Both of them looked fine one day and then the next they were just dead. After a year of apparent great health and spawning all the time they just up and died on me.
I decided that as much as I like the rams I wanted to try something else. After some research I bought a pair of kribensis cichlids. I really like them. When I bought them they were young enough to not have much color. But after 2 weeks of eating some spirulina 20 and they're starting to color up a bit more. I had to redo the decor in the tank because the caves I had just weren't good for the kribensis. I took the other caves out and added a big bridge that has 3 pretty sizable caves in it.
I also acquired a golden algae eater for the 20g. My dad had put him in his goldfish tank but the goldfish got bigger and started eating the smaller fish in the tank. My dad didn't want this little guy to get eaten plus I was worried about the algae eater eating the slime coat off of the goldfish so I put the algae eater in my 20g. He's a cute little guy.

Well I have good news and bad news. The bad news is that both of the kribensis cichlids died. I think that my conditions just aren't right for them. i had them for about two weeks and then they both just died on me.
I cleaned the 20g and have been doing 10% water changes every day.
And now for the good news. A week ago I bought gold and red mickey mouse platys and tequilla sunrise guppies. I've never kept any of them before but I have to admit that I really really like them. Hopefully I'll be able to post pictures of them soon.

Sorry Kagome about the Kribensis Based on the time you had these, it may well be a case of poorly shipped/cared for fish PRIOR to your obtaining them for your aquarium, so is may not be your conditions. Good luck with your Platties and Guppies; also nice to see you here again. Thanks for the purchase the other day too Carl

Your pictures look really great; both your aquariums themselves and the picture quality Your tanks are really nicely decorated with the bubble walls, pagodas, plants, etc. Love the Rainbow Fish too. Carl

Thanks Carl. Other than the betta tank pretty much all of my tanks qualify as "under construction" right now because I'm adding more plants. In a few months my husband and I are planning to experiment with making our own caves for the aquariums using natural rock and the same silicon sealant used to make aquariums. I'm going to attach live plants to them. In all of my pictures you can see the plants really well but most of the fish are out of focus. So I experimented with taking some video of the fish last night. Here are the two I took, the tank with the rainbowfish is the 40g and the one with the plays is the 20g. s27.photobucket.com/albums/c177/kagomekeg/?action=view¤t=DSCF0332.mp4s27.photobucket.com/albums/c177/kagomekeg/?action=view¤t=DSCF0333.mp4

Those pictures are gorgeous! The water looks so clean and the setup is absolutely stunning! Great job on your tanks. Your fish also look healthy and I really like the decorations and plants.
Your platies are cute. They look a bit like they're begging for food. lol They remind me of my fish, only mine nibble on the glass and do a frantic swimming dance when I come to their tank.

Ok, so replanted the anubis in the way parker suggested and it really turned out great. Here are updated pictures. You may notice that my pagoda is gone. It had an unfortunate accident when I was cleaning the tank and broke into about a billion pieces. There is no money to replace it right now so I rearranged the plants to fill in the gap. I also got a pretty good picture of my high finned spotted pleco, I call him Rocco and he can be a naughty boy about the plants but I love him anyway. Here's an overall shot of the tank as it is now. Here's Rocco behind a small amazon sword plant. This is a java fern that is a totally different variety from all of the others I have so I put it in this tank right by Buddha. Here are the anubis in the middle of the tank. Here are two amazon swords and the third anubis on the left end of the tank

I'm so glad I actually gave some useful advice! Your tanks look so good - crystal clear, clean, and well-arranged.

Thank you everyone for the kind compliments. My husband and I do put a lot of love and effort into these tanks.
Danny, I am an American and Caucasian but I truly love Asian culture, food, art, architecture, philosophy and much more. I did convert to Buddhism about a decade ago. I would love to travel through Asia but would particularly like to go to Japan, Thailand and Bhutan if I had to narrow it down.
So I added some new elements to my tanks. My parent's were super sweet and not only gave me a new 1 gallon betta set up for my birthday but they also completely surprised me by giving me a $100 Petsmart gift card as well! I got to go crazy in the fish aisle and pick up a bunch of stuff that I normally wouldn't splurge on. I still tried to be frugal and pick up some actual needed supplies (money is super tight right now) but then I also got to just buy some super fun stuff. I bought the ruins of the Coliseum in Rome, I've been wanting that for forever! I put that in the 20gallon. My husband loves it b/c he is a big Gladiator and Spartacus buff. And the platys love it! They've never really swum around in any of the other caves before but they pop in and out of that Coliseum constantly! And now both plecos and the angelicus loach actually have a cave big enough for all three that they don't even squabble over! Keeping with my Asian theme in the big tank I bought a really cool Chinese dragon decoration and bubbles come out of his mouth. I had to do some retrofitting to get it to bubble like I wanted it to but now it's totally awesome! I also added a submersible LED in the 40gallon that makes it look like there is moonlight shining in the tank after lights out. I love it and when I get to splurge again I'm going to add a colored one as well.
Hopefully updated pictures will be up soon. Big hugs everyone!

Nice pics! I'm jealous you can get pics of your pleco. I can't even approach the tank without him going into hiding. If I want to get a good look at him, I have to wait until he's sticking to the front glass and hope the curve in the glass prevents him from seeing me otherwise he goes right to the back of the wood centerpiece. If he's chilling on the gravel like yours is, as soon as you get within a few feet of the tank, boom. He's gone.
I just love your rainbows! They are so vibrant looking!
