I saw the AAP SunSun cup-609 about two years ago and fell in love. I am a mother of two young who are notorious for pulling things off/out and putting things IN my tanks. The idea of a self contained Uv Sterilizer that simply goes inside the tank then plugs in, sounded like God had answered my prayers specifically! I knew/know there are others that are level 2 capable, but taking a level lower of sterilization for the lack of mess on/outside the tank seemed like a fair trade. As my most beloved fish started dying, my husband gave me the ok to spend the money on a UVS. TBH, I didn’t ask the team or seek advice as to if this unit truly was appropriate for my needs and tank sizes kept. I Purchased my SunSun so fast you would think the money would catch fire if I didn’t spend it quick enough.. both out of my excitement to finally get it, and out of desperation to help my fish. I regret that now.
I am a small side aquarist, keeping up to 15 tanks at once, but all under 50 gallons. I rescue fish, so each is kept singularly for treatment purposes unless it’s a schooling/shoaling species. The only tanks I consider long term candidates for this or any UVS are:
10g well planted w/2 Dwarf Indian puffers (C. Travancoricus) w/HOB and Hydrosponge filtration
20g Long lightly planted w/1 Fangs puffer (P. Cochinchinensis) w/HOB and Hydrosponge filtration
29g w/1 Congo puffer (T. Miurus) w/Canister filter only
What I am asking is: are any of these tanks capable of effectively utilizing this SunSun 9w submersible, or if I will need to exchange this for another unit..? If another unit would be better for my situation and tanks, I would surely love to be pointed in the right direction. This is the last step I am missing to keeping a healthy Aquarium, and like every other step- I want to make sure it’s done properly.

lol.
I know the sterilizer will take up like half of a 10 gal...
20g would be a little better and the 29. I would just put something like a rock in front of the flow to slow it down.

I agree with Devon, but this is a matter of opinion. If you have one already, place it the 10 gallon and see how it looks & make up your own mind. It can still be hidden and you can block flow with a rock There are smaller submersible UVs, however the design of these does little to nothing for pre-filtration (a major part of correct UV Sterilization utilization), as well the design and often lamps only allow for clarification at most and this is assuming pre-filtration More reading: www.uvsterilizerreview.com/2010/12/internal-uv-sterilizer-filter-pump.htmlCarl
